A really successful first week. The children are hugely enthusiastic about the project and are bursting with ideas. It is certainly giving a chance to shine to some of the usually less vocal members of the group!

That you need to be organised and prepared for your events.

Bright Stars 2017 Summary

Our aim when taking on this project was to create a real business. We decided upon an Events Management Company because that tied in with some of the aims we already had in school, meant that we could explore lots of different business roles and also include a large number of pupils in our activities. Even though one of the major aims of some of our events was to raise money, we didn't want Bright Stars just to be about fundraising.

The children involved in the project have had really beneficial and exciting opportunities:

After the success of last year's project, 'The Snack Shack' which still runs on a daily basis in school, we were determined to replicate that success but make sure that a higher number of children were involved in the experience. We have definitely achieved that!

Once again the children have been enthusiastic, committed and a real pleasure to work with.

The Great North Air Ambulance was our chosen charity this year. The children chose this as we had recently been visited by the charity and they had provided some assemblies for us. The children were all impressed by the work they did and were keen to help in some way.

It is our aim to put the rest of the money towards resurfacing the school playground.

Working for a second year with David Allen has been fantastic. For us the fact that they are a business local to us is hugely important and has meant that we have been able to visit them on several occasions which has really helped. For many of children visiting their offices and getting an insight into the real world of work has been a real highlight.

Looking to the future, we will continue to look at events that the children can plan, organise and run which will help towards our resurfacing fund. We will also continue last year's tuck shop, which now employs a member of the community on a part time basis to assist with preparing healthy snacks.

We have achieved our aim of creating a real business that allows a large number of pupils to be involved and benefit from this involvement. We are very much looking forward to next year's project.
