Inspiring, encouraging and supporting the performance of others is a fundamental skill for leaders and managers. The course is designed to equip them with the skills, knowledge and attitude required to manage performance effectively, considering both day to day conversations and the appraisal process.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this programme, delegates will be able to:

  • monitor performance continuously to feed into appraisal process
  • prepare effectively for a performance conversation, e.g. appraisal, 1:1 supervision
  • use coaching skills to develop performance
  • provide constructive and relevant feedback
  • manage a difficult conversation, addressing poor performance

Course Content

During this workshop you will:

  • Consider poor performance and its causes
  • Review the performance culture in your organisation
  • Practice questioning skills, to engage others in their own performance
  • Discuss effective goal setting, developing objectives that stretch and challenge
  • Explore discretionary effort, how consequences shape behaviour and performance
