Tell us what you have been doing this week
In our initial business meeting for Bright Stars, we met with our local business partner, Dani, from Lake District Hotels. Our opening discussion was about our social enterprise a the 5 key points which are important for any business. These were: Product, Advertisement, Finance, Marketing and Charity. Then, we discussed how these worked in Dani's business and talked about what social enterprise is and how we can give back to our community.
What did you learn this week?
We also found out about some of the roles that we would need for our Bright Stars business, as well as discussing some possible product ideas. Our next steps from this meeting were to consider our individual strengths and how they'd link to a particular business role.
What did you find difficult this week?
There were lots of ideas for suitable product ideas and it is going to be really difficult just choosing one.

Trying to organise ourselves into groups with people with different skills rather than just our friendship groups.

Week 6
Tell us what you have been doing this week
In glorious sunshine our selling team went to Keswick Market armed with our lip balm, body scrub and bath salts. We set up our stall and spent 4 hours selling our products. We met with Jenni from Mountain Rescue who we are raising money for. Our finance team then counted how much money we have raised and we let Mountain Rescue know.
What did you learn this week?
We learned how to speak to customers, taking time to discuss our beauty products with them. We had to work out the total cost of things quickly and efficiently and make sure we gave people the correct change.
We had to remember our manners making sure we were being really polite and friendly.
What did you find difficult this week?
At first we were really shy speaking to people, but by the end of the four hours we had made up little jingles to sell our things. Sometimes adding up how much people had spent was tricky too.
Week 7 - half term

Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we have been busy making our final video, which we had lots of fun remembering everything we have done and learnt in the last eight weeks. Our Finance Team worked with the school office to see how the money is banked and then sent to Mountain Rescue. We had a celebratory session with Lake District Hotels who said what a wonderful job we had done. We are sad that the project has come to an end and look forward to taking part again next year. What did you learn this week?
We learned that business does not just stop after a product has been sold, but is cyclical and continues the cycle again and again. We have definitely learned that teamwork is the most important thing. What did you find difficult this week?
Coming to a stop. We all wanted to carry our business on!!For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
It has been an exciting eight weeks where we have learnt so much about business because of links with Lake District Hotels.
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
It has been so valuable seeing our children working as a whole school team with the older pupils nurturing the younger members. It has strengthened our links with local business, which we hope will continue in the future.
