Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Children came up with initial ideas and wrote down proposals for their project. We discussed how we would 'sell' our idea to others.
There was a big focus on how our project would create a long term impact on the local community - something as a school we are passionate about.

What did you learn this week?

Teamwork - listening to the ideas of others and taking on board what they said to benefit the group.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We met with Mark and Rob from Forth Engineering and learnt all about their business and how they would support us in our project.
The children then came up with a spokesperson for their group, who would present to Mark and Rob, their ideas for what the project could be.
The children, dragon's den style, presented their ideas - 4 groups - to Mark and Rob and answered questions relating to their project.
Mark, Rob and myself (the class teacher) then discussed and agreed upon the class project moving forward. The different roles within the project were then discussed.

What did you learn this week?

Presentation skills - being articulate, answering specific questions.
Selling yourself and your product.
What Forth Engineering do and what a business is.
That the whole class can work together to design and make bird boxes.
That everyone can bring something to the project.

What did you find difficult this week?

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Further work on the bird box design - more technical design including measurements / design spec.

Week 6

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We chose a name for our project ( Bird Buddies) and were given roles based on our strengths. We have a design team, a marketing team, a team who will take orders and a team who will make the products.
Rob from Forth came in and we looked at material costs and prices for our products.
We looked at design prototypes and evaluated them to come up with a more effective design.
Based on the final design, we created a team logo for our adverts / posters and created them s that we can promote our product.

What did you learn this week?

Budget - how we cannot spend too much on our materials as it will take away from our profit. What a good selling price is.
Evaluating - what works and what doesn't in a product.
Teamwork - working together to get the best from our skills.

What did you find difficult this week?

Maths! - working out the costings. % return for investors. Deciding on a name - being fair and listening to everyone's opinion.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Our logo team has created a logo. Our marketing team has created and filmed an advert to go on social media. We have completed an order form ready to take orders and we have made posters to promote our Bird Boxes on social media and in the community. Our adverts have been posted onto the school social media accounts. On Wednesday we visited Forth and had a great time learning all about their business. we had a tour of the workshop and helped build some of the Bird Boxes. On Thursday we sold the Bird Boxes to parents and grandparents outside school.

What did you learn this week?

Teamwork - listening skills. Working together Editing a film Perform / present. sell our product using clear voices How a business works and operates. more detail about Forth. engaging with customers - answering their questions to secure a sale.

What did you find difficult this week?

Compromising - agreeing on the best design. it was a bit scary making the video, but we were glad we did and have had good feedback.

We have enjoyed working with Mark and Rob. It was fun seeing what the workshop was like and using the tools - that some of us had never used before - to make the bird boxes. We felt proud selling them

Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?

We have had an excellent opportunity to engage with a local business and learn from their industry expertise. The children have shone in areas that they do not have access to in everyday schooling. The children have learnt about teamwork, communication and the wider business world. They have fully engaged and enjoyed the product.
