Week 1
Team name: The Walking Warriors
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week, we have spoken to our buisness partner, Rachel, from Grisedales Estate Agents. During this period we have been taught about her business aswell as beginning our own. We have brainstormed and collected ideas on what we would like/prefer to do for our enterprise, this included: an instruction manual on eco-freindly toys, our own Maryport den building business, selling sweets or making our own slime/stress balls and much more. After a long time of voting, we decided on a book about the many walks of Maryport. After this, we chose the name Marywalks for our new, eye-catching book.
What did you learn this week?
We learnt that we all have to work together to form a successful business that we agree on. Communication and listening skills during these lessons were vital to create an enterprise, we all had to work together as a team to get the job completed, which meant that we learnt how to work as a team.
What did you find difficult this week?
Initially, deciding or choosing a final idea was the hardest part of creating a business. We struggled on thinking what would attract the public to support us in our final idea.

Finalised Logo
Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week, we have been creating our very own logos. We have disovered that this requires hard work, passion and teamwork. We have voted for the best logos and we have found we have a tie, so we combined them both together to create our new logo. This week, we have also created our team, we then voted for which teams we we wanted to be in-photograthy, marketing, presenting, contents or finance, you could also become a manager for either team you selected. In the end we were selected for teams.
What did you learn this week?
We have learnt that in order to create a successful enterprise, you need to choose and combine ideas and people fairly. Aswell as this, we learnt that you need to listen to others ideas, not just your own.
What did you find difficult this week?
The thing we found difficult this week was agreeing on our ideas and designs. We have also found that combining two logos into one was extremely difficult to do.
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week, we have been finalising our front cover for the book. We combined the ideas of three different children to create one final cover. Aswell as this, we have been coming up with ideas for page layouts. This includes a map with the start and finish of the walk. While we completed these tasks, the photography team was taking photos of our progress. The finance team has created a spreadsheet for the price of our book. They have checked the prices of other similar books so we know that our price is reasonable. We are yet to choose a final price.
What did you learn this week?
We have learnt that to finalise our cover, poster and advertisment we need to combine our ideas fairly and we have to be thoughtfgul towards others. We have also learnt to identify what others want and make the walks unique from other walks.
What did you find difficult this week?
This week we have found it difficult to agree on a final design. Many people argued that the final design or the seperate designs that were combined should'nt have been voted.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we went on our first walk around Maryport, which was the prom walk, that Rachel from Grysdale decided to join us on. We took and selected photos to insert into our future page layouts, aswell as as a full walk video to link to a QR code. We also tracked the walk and put it into strava to create our very own map of the walk, again for our future page layout. We also tracked the distance of the walk and how long it takes to complete.
What did you learn this week?
This week we learnt how to create an app using Strava and we also learnt thta not every walk is suitable for everyone as wheelchairs and prams would not be able to complete the walk, where as things like mountain bikes and dog owners with their dogs would manage the full harbour walk.
What did you find difficult this week?
This week, we found it difficult to use Strava accurately due to bad connection throughout the walk. We found getting the videos off of the GoPro onto the IPad.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we went on the second walk around the harbour. We took several photos and a video, again to be made into a QR code, aswell as another weather code. We used ChatGPT to help us create a paragraph to decribe the walk and the points of intreststs, veiws, starting points and parking places. Another group described the route of the walk (where to go and what to see) under a slection of photos so that people were informed on where they were supposed to go and what to expect.
What did you learn this week?
This week we learnt not every walk is suitable for everyone as prams and wheelchairs could struggle to go up the stairs to get up to the wall and down again. We also learnt that Strava isnt the most reliable app due to past experiences including this weeks walk.
What did you find difficult this week?
This we we again found it difficult to use strava accurately as the signal wasnt the best either. We eventually created the map but it wasnt as perfect as we hoped.

Book Layout

Book Layout
Week 6
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week, we had a staff member in from Grisdales to help our content/marketing team finalise a layout for the pages in the book. The children benefited from the expertise of Lauren Lister and it helped them created a professional layout for the book. The children created an advert for the business idea, including information on they are, what will be in the book and a catchy rap to grab the attention of potential customers. A group of children also created a poster to put around Maryport to get more people to buy them. Everyone went on the first walk filming the walk to see how long it was.
What did you learn this week?
Developed their knowledge of Canva and how to make things look professional. How to create an advert to grab people's attention. We also learnt that to have an easy to read page we would have to make it look profecional and neat.
What did you find difficult this week?
WE found it difficult to decide on a finalised idea with Lauren, a member of staff from Grisedales. Eventually, we worked together to create a final layout including everything we needed.
Week 7 - half term
The Walking Warriors
Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
The finance team has finalised the price for the book, which was two pounds. To get this, we took profit and budget into consideration, fifty books = fifty pounds, so this would be one pound a book, we doubled this to get fifty pounds profit in the end to print more books. We got a reduced price from Fir Press because we agreed to placing there logo onto the back of the book. We conmpletely finished adding the information into the book pages for each walk. What did you learn this week?
This week we learnt how to set up the information on the pages clear and so it's simple to find and easy to read. Along side this we learnt that not every page set up will work. What did you find difficult this week?
This week we found it difficult to stick to the deadline. With little time to finish, due to SATs and other problems, we still had walks and layouts to complete in a short amount of time. For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
It has meant we could work collaboratively to make a difference in our local community.
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
We have struggled to fit it in this year because we don't start the project until after SATs. However, the children have been extremely engaged with it and have produced a fantastic book. We have only justr had the book printed so have missed the trading deadline. However, the children want to sell the book anyways so really our journey is only just beginning and they children have already expressed buying another batch of books to sell once we have sold the 50 we initially bought. The Bright Stars project has helped the children with their teamwork, problem-solvng skills and made them think outside the box and be creative.
