Week 1

Team name: Oh So Sweet

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We had our first meeting. We looked at what a business is and what is a social enterprise. People from NNL came in to help us and told us what they did for a living. We completed mind maps giving ideas for a business. We had lots of ideas. We wanted to sell something and we all decided that we should create a tuck shop. We haven't decided what we are going to sell yet but will do this later on. We also thought about names such as Donut city and year 3 tuck shop. We liked Oh So Sweet because it was a play on words. We will sell sweets and we are sweet.

What did you learn this week?

That we can all have lots of ideas. We all have to decide and get along. We now know what a social enterprise is. We had a good time deciding on a name.

What did you find difficult this week?

Trying to get one idea was hard. Some children wanted to make comics and didn't like it when others disagreed.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we made a final decision on the name of our company and what we wanted to call it. We also completed a business plan. We thought about what we wanted do using the 5p’s of business. We needed to leave some bits blank such as price. We will decide this when we buy our stock. We then decided to draw our company logo. We all shared our ideas at the end. We all had colourful ideas and try to use sweets in the letters.

What did you learn this week?

It is important to make your business logo stand out. Having a plan means that we all have the same idea instead of trying to things by ourselves.

What did you find difficult this week?

It was hard to decide on a logo because we all had great ideas. We could decide on price yet.

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We made poster to advertise our stall. We searched on Amazon for sweets to check the prices and do market research. We looked at prices and what we could buy with our money. We tried to look for the best value for money. We created signs for our stalls with our name Oh So Sweet.

What did you learn this week?

How to create different designs and what would stand out. We learned about profit based on the cost of our goods. We learned about market research and things we could buy. We learned that the cheapest isn't always the best or the most value.

What did you find difficult this week?

Using the internet to buy stock isn't always simple we wanted to buy things from a website but then discovered it would take ages to be delivered. This was too long.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we bought our sweets and spent £40 on lots of different types. We also bought cone bags from Amazon for £8. We then made our sweet cones, we decided 100g was a good amount and we weighed them on the scales. We got our gloves on and prepared the tables with mats to it was clean. We all made 68 bags of cone sweets. With our teacher we estimated that it cost 64p to make each cone bag. We thought our cones would sell at £1.50 when we compared them to other chocolate and sweets. We also asked children in another class if that sounded reasonable. We discussed profit margins.

What did you learn this week?

We now know it is important to calculate the cost of a product so that we can decide on a price and make a profit. We also think it is a good idea to ask children in other classes to research what they think as they we be our customers.

What did you find difficult this week?

We enjoyed making the bags but found it tricky to keep the same amount in the bags. It was hard to estimate a price without making the products first.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we have been busy selling our sweet cones. We sold 60 last week for £1.50 each making £90. We took some of that money and bought more sweets. We spent another £40 on sweets and made another 70 cones. We held another sale with different people on the stall. We will look to sell the rest of our cones next week. We also made an advert to go onto Facebook to advertise our business.

What did you learn this week?

We can take some money and reinvest into more stock. We also thought about profit and how to record our sales. We made an advert and tried to make it stand out.

What did you find difficult this week?

We struggled for ideas for the advert. We didn’t sell as many on the second stall and we need to let more people know about our stall.

Week 6

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been writing letters and doing videos about oh so sweet and an advert,. We put our advert on the school's Facebook and we already have 106 views. https://fb.watch/kK-eHrhS We made a start on our video and did another sweet sale around school. We thought about how to make a difference in the community. We wrote letters to send out to the Nursery Telling them about us and we plan to give them sweets to put a smile on their face and make a difference. We thought that it would be nice for the little kids to get a treat and show that us bigger kids are friendly.

What did you learn this week?

What a social enterprise is. Now that we have made a good profit we wanted to do something nice. We learned that other businesses do this as well just like NNL.
How to count money accurately. How to turn a frown upside down. We learned that putting adverts on Facebook gets lots of views.

What did you find difficult this week?

Finding prices for the extra sweets. Finding solutions for the left over sweets. Some found talking on the final video tricky.

We have thought about how we have enjoyed doing Bright Stars. We sold our final few cones. We have a profit of £104.85 after taking off the first £50. Our total sales were £154.85. We have sent our letters and treats to the Nursery next door. We wanted to spread a little joy and happiness to the little children of Cleator Moor. We checked our advert on Facebook and it now has 200 views.

What did you learn this week?

We learned that making a business is fun. We also think we were really good at working together and we never disagreed with each other.

What did you find difficult this week?

Making sure the video was short as we could have added a lot more detail.
