Week 1
Team name: Green Team and School Council (Team name still being considered).
Tell us what you have been doing this week
The children have been discussing their favourite meals and meals they would like to include in the Cookbook.
The children have been discussing Logo ideas and they think they would like it to include a star (as this links to Seaton Academy). The children have started drawing some of their ideas.
The children thought about 'Family favourites' and what the design mat resemble i.e. photos and or cartoon images.
They thought about it being more than a cook book which may include ideas such as health/exercise links and even seeds for growing their own food.
What did you learn this week?
The children learned (from Firpress) about what different booklets and or 'Books' (Cookbook) could look like and have discussed ideas as to what they would want their design to look like.
They have learned how many pages they may need to include.
What did you find difficult this week?
The children found it hard to think of a team name and also a name for the cook book. Some ideas were shared but none agreed on. The children will be thinking about this over the next week.

Logo options! Tough decision!

Time to select the colours we would like!
Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we are selecting the logo. We are looking at different designs and selecting our favourite ones. We have also coloured in the logos in our favourite colours. We are also deciding on the name of our cookbook. We have some options to choose from.
We are deciding on the best size for our cook book.
We are also considering the price of the food items and how much per meal. The hope is tat the meals cost less than £1 per person, per meal.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about Logo's and names of businesses.
We learned that we could work out the price per meal.
The children have been explaining their name, favourite food and a 'fun fact' about themselves!
We have looked at the pre-questionnaire and these have been filled out by each child.
What did you find difficult this week?
We found it difficult to select a name. This is because it's 'just words' and the children have needed help to develop this concept!
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
The children have been developing ideas of key ingredients, how many recipes they will have in their book. How many pages..... and what the layout looks like. We have discussed a visit to a local supermarket to help cost ingredients and will be asking a store i.e ASDA to stock the recipe book.
What did you learn this week?
We learned that we need to plan ahead to ensure we have the right amount of pages in the book and how they layout will look like.
We learned about the cost of printing and how we need to decide how many copies of the recipe book we need to order!
What did you find difficult this week?
Deciding how many copies of the book to order as we didn't want to have too many and have lots left over. Also, the more we buy in one batch, makes the order cheaper - so it was a difficult decision.

This one is good value!
Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have had a group visit to Asda where we have identified food items for our recipe book and priced them up! We are aiming to make the meal s£1 per person per meal. We compared different weights of items and selected them based on quality and price. For example, we selected Healthy meals and 'lean' products. It wasn't always about the cheapest.
We had fun finding the items we may need for our recipe book.
What did you learn this week?
We have learned that Asda will help us by giving us £30 for our shopping this week so that we can buy the items and make the meals - photos can then go in our cook book.
We have also learned we can 'sell' our books in their shop! We will need to hold an evening to do this!
What did you find difficult this week?
It was hard selecting the foods with best best value. Some foods cost more because they were higher quality or 'branded'. Decided on a 'best fit' of healthy and affordable.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have been looking at editing and finalising formats prior to print. This involved finalising the layout of the Cookbooks and adding taglines.
What did you learn this week?
We learned that the more we print 'in bulk' the cheapeer the price is. We had to decide how many books we thought we could sell to maximise our profit!
What did you find difficult this week?
We found it hard to select how many books to print - we had to balance paying for the books and the profit margins made.

Week 6
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we went to Firpress Printers. We looked at our design on the screens. We added to the design and then printed it. We then collates copies and used the 'Trimming machine'. We then used the stapler and finalised our cook books!
What did you learn this week?
We learned about the process of printing, what systems need to be in place and how the final copies are made.
What did you find difficult this week?
We didn't find anything difficult this week - we found our trip enjoyable and are now keen to get selling out cook books! :-)
Week 7 - half term

Selling Cookbooks outside of School!

Selling Cookbooks in Asda!
Our Super 'Bright Stars' age 5-7! Love colouring and visiting Firpress to see their cookbook being made!!
Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have had a busy time selling! We have sold our product outside of school, at Asda in the evening and online! We have been promoting hard! We even have extra books to sell at the School Fair. What did you learn this week?
We learned that it helps if we talk to people and tell them about our product. The customers liked to heard about who we are, what we have done! They liked our 'Good cause' being the foodbank. We had many people donate money without buying a book! What did you find difficult this week?
We were quite nervous about asking people in Asda (who we did not know) to buy the cookbook. It cook courage to overcome our nerves, but once we spoke to them, many bought the cook book. For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
The children have enjoyed being involved in Bright Stars because they have been able to make a Cookbook! They are happy that they have made £530, they can donate to charity and spend in school!
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
We have fully embraced this programme! It has taken lot's of time, and organisation, but the opportunities and experiences for the School Council and Eco council have been amazing! We have built excellent links with Firpress and they are a company we would use in the future as a school!
We are due to record our video on 12/6/23 so we will upload it then!
