Week 1

Team name:

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Over the past few weeks, in nursery and reception we have been working hard to design a logo. We met up with our sponsor CCL solutions to discuss our idea and the benefit it would have on various insects. This helped us to put together ideas for our logo.

What did you learn this week?

We have learnt the impact different plants have on different insects. We decided it would be nice for every child to put their artistic skills to use, so, every child designed a logo we then used snipets from as many of the logos as we could.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found the younger chidren found it hard using ICT skills to put together a logo, so, we involved the wider school by getting them to support us with the ICT side of our logo.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we have been busy making our seed bombs and we have also started to wrap them up ready to sell!

What did you learn this week?

We have been learning about the different materials used: Wildflower seeds, compost and clay. Also, using our cutting skills to cut the material and wrap the seed bombs up using ribbon/string.

What did you find difficult this week?

Ocasionally, we found cutting the material to be hard so we had help from adults and older children in school. We also chnaged our technique in making the seed bombs.

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We are still well on our way to making as many seed bombs as possible. This week, we were fortunate enough that Lowther Castle and Gardens donated us some wildflower seeds. Thank you very much!
We are excited to start selling our seed bombs :)

What did you learn this week?

This week, we discussed our selling options. We have managed to come up with a variety of different places where we are hoping to go/ take our product to sell. With this in mind, we are still in discussion with our sponsor (CCL Solutions) to come up with a price on our product.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to come up with a set price as our product varies in size so we are planning on selling at different prices depedning on size but as mentioned above this is still in discussion.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we began to make up baskets of our seed bombs with an infromation leaflet. We put these together to go to some local businesses and sell our product. We contacted as many local businesses as we could think of to help us sell our seed bombs.

What did you learn this week?

As we have started making money, we discussed how much money we'd spent on resources to make our product and how much money we've collected so far to work out how much profit we have made as a result.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to engage the younger children in the calculations so we encouarged some of the older children in school to come ans help us.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have continued to promote our seed bombs to as many local businesses as we can.
We are still busy making more seed bombs so we can sell as many as we can!

What did you learn this week?

This week, we have learnt the importnace of building up business skills. Taking this on board, we have arranged a visit to Lowther Castle and Gardens where we will be setting up at stall continue selling our product.

What did you find difficult this week?

Time!! Time is ticking and we were super busy in the lead up to half term but we are ready to make more and sell more.

Week 6 - half term

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been busy making and selling our seed bombs. We visited Lowther Castle and Gardens and wokred hard to sell as many seed bombs as possible. We have visited a few of our local businesses to check the sale of the seed bombs there.

What did you learn this week?

This week we learnt the importance of working as a team. We have a better understanding that we have to work extremely hard for our money in order to buy valuable things. We found when selling our seed bombs we had to do a lot of maths :) The children did a fantastic job!

What did you find difficult this week?

When selling the seed bombs, with our reception children the money aspect was harder for them to understand but we tried using figures such as £2 and £5 to help them.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been busy selling lots more seed bombs and we started to count our money so far ;)

What did you learn this week?

We learnt the importance of communicating with other businesses to help support our business plan. We visited our local restuarant 'The George and Dragon' and thanked them for helping us to sell our seed bombs.

What did you find difficult this week?

We also went out to sell more seed bombs at a local attraction nearby however, the weather wasn't as good this week meaning it was quieter therefore, less sales but a fantastic opportunity!

Week 9

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we decided to think about our community! We came up with the idea of donating some seed bombs to a local care home. This way the residents of Winter's Park care home can enjoy planting and watching the whildflower seed bombs grow.

What did you learn this week?

We discussed the importnace of giving back to the community and how this will make others feel. Particularly in our case how it will make the residents and staff at the care home feel.

What did you find difficult this week?

We still have a few seed bombs remaining and are having a final push to sell these in time for Friday!
