Bright Stars - School Update

Sponsors

Week 1

Team name: Water Warriors

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we have been very busy deciding on our company name and designing a logo. We have also planned and ran our first fundraiser by holding a coffee morning so we are able to buy our product to sell. We have been in touch with the charity we will be supporting to find out more about them and arrange a time when they can talk to us in school. We have designed and bought our products ready to begin selling when they arrive. We have done this with support from Suzanne at Forth engineering.

What did you learn this week?

We have learnt so much this week. We have learnt that running your own business is hard work and you need to work hard to be successful. We have learnt to be resilient when our designs or names for the company were not chosen. We have learnt how to work as a team at the coffee morning and how to do.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found standing on our feet all morning hard work and tiring. Learning how to fill in our accounts book so we know what we have spent and make.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

we have ordered our products from the money we have raised. Tracey, from the charity, came to talk to us about the car wash where we will sell our products. Suzanne helped us write our business plan, to think about what we want to do and how we are going to do it. We have made the posters for the next event, our bingo and raffle night. We have ordered our bingo cards.

What did you learn this week?

We have learnt that we have to spend some money we have raised, to make more money. We have learnt to be patient as we wait for the products to be made. We have learnt how to find and buy things online. We have also learnt how to write a business plan.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult waiting for our order because we want to start selling.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have begun selling our wristbands. We have done lots of promotion on social me did and around school. We have had a safety talk with Maryport Inshore Rescue so we can share the information when selling the bands. We have ordered raffle tickets for our bingo night.
We have had to email the company who made our bands because they made the writing in the wrong colour.

What did you learn this week?

We have learnt that we need to promote our products to make them sell more. Also that sometimes things change and you just have to keep going.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult not selling many wristbands this week, we thought they would sell quicker. We also were sad that the company that made our bands used the wrong colour on the printed writing.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been very busy this week planning and running two fundraisers. We have held a bingo and raffle night which was really popular. Everyone had a job to do on the night and we raised lots of money. We have also held a PJ and movie day in school and raised even more money. We have been into other classrooms to promote our wristbands so we can sell more. We have written and practiced an assembly talk all about water safety which we have done in our school assembly, we are going to other schools after half term.

What did you learn this week?

We have continued to learn that it is hard work running a business. We had to quickly make tickets for the bingo night so we had a idea of how many people were coming so we could prepare. We learnt how to work well as a team to get the jobs done and helped each other to get done what we needed to.

What did you find difficult this week?

Not selling as many of the wristbands as we had thought. planning, setting up and running the bingo night. There was a lot to plan and decisions to be made.

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been up to another school and presented an assembly. We also sold wristbands up there too. We have made a video to send to other schools in the area to share the water safety rules with them. We have given the schools some bands to sell. We put some wristbands on sale in some shops and salons too.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt not to give up if our product wasn't selling. We had to be more active in finding ways to sell our product. We learnt how to reach more people with our message through using our creativity.

What did you find difficult this week?

We had to miss the carwash because the charity had changed times. This was going to be a big selling event for us. Standing up in front of older children from a different school and talking.

We have had a busy week sending out our boxes of wristbands to sell in different places in Maryport. We have also been up to our local community centre's 'Coffee and Crack' session to talk to their visitors about water safety and sell some wristbands. We had fantastic feedback and wonderful support. We have also had to begin to prepare for the final video.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how to talk to other grown ups and how to make sure we were loud for all the people to hear. We have continued to learn how important our message is that we are sharing with the community. We have also learnt how to begin to prepare for the final video, making scripts and props.

What did you find difficult this week?

We have not found anything particularly difficult this week.

For pupils to answer:

In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?

We have learnt it can be very hard work running your own business but it was awesome to raise lots of money!

For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?

Bright Stars project has yet again been an excellent experience for the children. They have loved organising, working as a team and putting in a lot of hard work. They have learnt so many new skills in the process. The thing they have enjoyed the most was making money to give to charity. What a fabulous experience , which they would not otherwise get. Some children who do not normally volunteer to be part of school activities have been first to volunteer and have really gained lots of self confidence. I am super proud of them all!
