Week 1

Team name: Tradimals

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we were told that we would be doing Bright Stars and we were SO excited! We discussed what a business was and talked about what people had done last year.
We said we wanted to make something that we would enjoy and that was to do with something we cared about (wildlife/the environment).
We have decided to do trading cards! We all love to trade Pokemon so we want to make our own but they will have animals on them.
We came up with our business name of Tradimals and we have started designing logos. We are going to vote next week for our favourite.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt what a business is and about all of the different roles. We talked about what they were and we have the chance to interview for them after half term (if we want a leadership role). We also learnt that No Name Travel was our partner company - which we were happy about.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to agree on a name at first. Some of our ideas were quite long and complicated but we thought that Tradimals explained what we would be selling really well.

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we picked our logo for the Tradimals we are selling. The creator of the logo is Edie Bell.
We have chosen 4 themes (artic, dessert, jungle and sea) for the cards and decided there will be 24 to collect.
We started to design our cards.
We also decided what roles people will be doing, thinking about the different roles involved within a business. Beccy from No Name Travel came to help us too!

What did you learn this week?

We learnt lots of interesting facts about our animals and their habitat.
We talked about things we can do to help protect animals and the places they live.
We thought back to the Beach clean we took part in in September, organised by No Name Travel and how much rubbish we cleared

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to decide which species to include in our list! It was tricky finding reliable sources on the internet so we had to be really carefully when fact finding.

We have made some great progress this week, we have made stickers with our logos on and popped them on the envelopes ready to pack next week.
Most of the cards have been shrunk down to size and we have begun strimming, laminating and cutting them out ready. The final designs are being researched and drawn up too.
Next Tuesday, there will be an assembly about it which we have started the PowerPoint for.
Next Wednesday will be our first sale day!

What did you learn this week?

How to write a blog! (Felicity's Blog:) We started packing, cutting, getting them the right size and getting the poster and the assembly ready.
We don't know the winning posters only Edie knows.

We learnt how to laminate and use a guillotine safely and how to set up a PowerPoint.

What did you find difficult this week?

Shrinking the pictures to scale to fit in the envelopes.

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We start trading this week so it was all systems go to get the cards finished and packed up.
We created a production line with laminators, cutting, packers and quality control.
Wednesday was our first day of trading and the cards were very popular. We were really pleased with the sales and everyone loved the cards from Reception to Year 6! People were even buying them for their family members.

Update: we made £55 in sales. We need to make a lot more as we sold out!!

What did you learn this week?

We learnt about production processes and the importance of good communication.

(Felicity's Blog:)
We have started making rare cards and need to create 2 more rares for arctic and jungle, We are making a list so people know what cards they have. People love them!

What did you find difficult this week?

Quality Control
We learnt to put 4 cards in each pack not 3 or 5 and gave somebody this job after a couple of packs were returned.

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have attached a picture of our power point presentation that we did in assembly
and our costing. We finished designing our super rare cards to start selling next week.
We also put our Tradimals Collectors posters around school for everyone to match their cards too so they could see all of them!
We also had our first trading club this week. It went well and was really popular!

What did you learn this week?

Being organised and good communication is key. We also learnt that we need someone assigned to do stock counts and keep on top of this. We got our Project Manager, Chloe to do this.

What did you find difficult this week?

Keeping up with the demand for the cards.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we have had a final sales push by writing a DOJO post to spread the message about the release of our very limited edition, super rare shiny cards! We also made posters with pictures of them and added them to our other posters around school. This made a big difference to our sales for the rest of the week and we SOLD OUT!

What did you learn this week?

We learnt that it is important to keep up communication because this helps maintain sales. We also found out about some interesting wild animal conservation charities and next week we are going to vote democratically to decide which one to give 50% of our profits to.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to decide which critically endangered animals from each biome to make into a super rare shiny because our illustrators and fact finders did such a good job!

Week 9

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we have voted for which endangered animal we would like to adopt. We voted democratically and the animal chosen was Snow Leopard. We will be donating 50% of our profit towards the WWF. We also checked the Business Plan together and discussed the video that we will be creating.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt about which animals the WWF consider to be the most endangered and in need of conservation. We found out what our money would be helping to do.

What did you find difficult this week?

It was difficult to choose just one animal to adopt because we wanted to help them all.

For pupils to answer:

In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?

It has meant lots of fun, teamwork and organisation - we loved it and are very proud of ourselves and what we have achieved.

For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?

It has been wonderful to see the children be so enthusiastic and cheering with delight when given time for BrightStars and Tradimals. They have learnt so many new skills and it has brought the whole school community closer, with children across year groups coming together to trade cards and learn more about some of the world's weirdest and most endangered species. Every child within the class has thrived and been celebrated through the role they have been given, be that illustrator, content creator, marketing, sales and the many other roles we have had.
