Team name: 5O Chocolate

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we met our business advisors and started learning about the 5P's of business. We started thinking of ideas for our own business.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how the 5P's help make a business successful and we looked at businesses we had visited and how their business plans followed the 5P's.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it very difficult this week to narrow down our ideas for a business! We had too many!

We found it embarrassing to present our ideas in front of everyone because they kept making us laugh!

some

We looked at McDonalds because it was our favourite place.

some

We found it really hard to present but we persevered.

Week 2 - half term

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We focussed on the UN sustainability goals and added this to our business ideas.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt what each goal was and why it was an important goal. We learnt how different aspects of the goals affect different areas of our world. We also talked about the progress that had already been made towards these goals and what we could do to help.

What did you find difficult this week?

We had to decide our idea this week, which was difficult because we had so many ideas - definitely lots of food ideas though (Chicken Shawarma). We had to decide which UN goals we would help.

some

The interview presentation process was gruelling.

some

Votes were counted and jobs given.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we decided our business and started learning about job roles. We had to apply for the position we wanted and then we were voted in by our company.

What did you learn this week?

We learned that there are a lot of different jobs in a company and they all need each other. We learned what qualities made a person good at a job so we could make a better decision about what job we would enjoy.

What did you find difficult this week?

This week we had our interview presentations recorded in front of everyone! We found it difficult to decide exactly which job we would enjoy most.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week worked on our business plan, started designing flyers and created our logo.

What did you learn this week?

We learned that we can use lots of skills in our business and it is very interesting. We got to draw different ideas and in the end voted on the best choice.

What did you find difficult this week?

There are a lot of decision still to make.

We have had a really busy week! We have chosen our logo and our charity. We went shopping for our products.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how important it is to be organised. Lots of us are doing lots of jobs and it is very chaotic but fun.

What did you find difficult this week?

We are really anxious to be selling our product.

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We received our first batch of order forms from children at our school and began processing our orders.

What did you learn this week?

We learned the importance of product consistency and our customer service team worked really hard to ensure each package was identical. We got to work in our teams on lots of different projects.

What did you find difficult this week?

Putting everything together and getting all the teams to work at the same time was challenging for our management.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We took a trip to Dunmail Park and sold lots of cones.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt that you have to attract customers by holding flyers in the air and persuading customers to buy. We learnt the importance of smiling and being enthusiastic.

What did you find difficult this week?

Sometimes it was difficult when people approached but walked away without buying anything.

Week 9

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been writing our script and selling our last cones! We started evaluating our prgoress.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how to give ideas for our script and we learnt that even if our idea doesn't get chosen it's still valued. We also learnt about the challenges are in writing a script and trying to involve everyone's ideas equally.

What did you find difficult this week?

Figuring out how much money has been made has been challenging. Another challenge has been working out if we had enough cones for everyone to have what they ordered without another shopping trip!

For pupils to answer:

In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?

Bright Stars means to have fun; build teamwork; build confidence and to stay positive.

For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?

The impact of this programme has been clear to see. At the start of the programme my main concerns were to develop pupils' understanding of a social enterprise. I have seen my class become more aware of their wider environment, community and have a wider knowledge of the concerns of other people. They have shown themselves to be a kind and caring group who have kept other people at the forefront of their minds throughout this project.
On a more individual level, I have seen pupils who had been quiet and reluctant to share their ideas become leaders and influencers within the class. I have seen pupils enthusiasm increase as the project has gone on and they are much better at working as a team. I have been very impressed with how much effort my class has put in to this project and the support they have managed to gain from their community has been impressive.
