We have spent time this week brainstorming ideas for our project - we had loads!
After discussing various ideas we have decided to create a Seasonal Nature Magazine to include local facts about nature, plant facts, recipes, walks, nature art and poetry.
We will launch the magazine on our annual plant sale date and invite parents and members of the community to come along for afternoon tea.

On Thursday we hosted our Plant Sale for parents, friends and members of the community. The sun shone , lots of plants and cake was sold and it was a great success.
As well as plants that we had grown from seed, we sold a variety of cakes (all school-made), tea and coffee and rhubarb cordial (also school made).
Instead of fixed prices we asked people to 'make a donation' but are confident we have made a good profit. The finance team just need to count everything up!
We also launched our nature magazine by telling visitors to the plant sale about it and taking email addresses.

Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we have been working hard in our garden. harvesting our crops (peas, raspberries , lettuce , rhubarb, strawberries) so we can sell these to parents and people in the community. We have been busy keeping all our plants well watered in the heat this week. We have also been printing off more of our magazines and are continuing to sell these to parents and the wider community who have been very supportive of our enterprise and learning more about our school and Bright stars.
What did you learn this week?
The best thing about harvesting is eating the food straight from the plant! They taste sooooo much better that way. They have also learnt how important watering our plants especially when very hot. How to publish our magazine to sell.
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of the children have learnt how to publish our magazine this week which has involved learning new skills whilst being patient and follow step by step instructions carefully.
For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
Bright Stars has been exciting and interesting because we have learnt about business and social enterprise whilst working with the community.
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
This project has been a great format to focus our Y3/4 class in Outdoor Learning lessons as they often find it difficult to work effectively as a team. Having this as a focus and encouraging them to work to their strengths has been very motivating for them and great to see.
Our plant sale was really enjoyable and the magazine has been extremely well received by local hostelries, parents and community members - so much so that we intend to make it a permanent fixture with a twice yearly publication! We are already planning content for the Autumn/Winter edition!
We would love to get involved with Bright Stars again as fell that it provides great format and structure for holistic and practical learning.
