Week 1

Team name: Monkwray Makers

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we have been busy designing our team logo, deciding on a team name (Monkwray Makers) and we have also split ourselves into four teams and have assigned ourselves jobs.
We have had Marc from No Name Travel in supporting us today and he helped by proof reading our letters, and looking over our logo designs and assigning team roles. Marc also helped us with giving charity suggestions.
We have voted on the charity that we would like to raise money for and as a class we have decided to donate some of our profits to the Gastroenterology Ward of West Cumberland Hospital.

What did you learn this week?

We learned about the different charities that we could donate to.
We focused on which flowers we will be using in our wild flower bombs.
We learned about the different teams that we need to have in our business and what each role means.

What did you find difficult this week?

Some of us struggled to decide which charity to donate to.
Some of us struggled to create a logo and a team name.
Writing letters were also tricky for some.

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This has been the busiest week so far as we have all been doing Bright stars Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This week we have finished building and painting our planters, we have also lined them. We have received an amazing donation from Whitehaven garden centre, they donated a £54 voucher! Some of us have made very colourful posters! We have decided a selling date (next Wednesday). Some of us have made wild flower bombs, a couple of children have made stickers for the packaging. We have a total of £4.68 left.

What did you learn this week?

We have learnt the importance of patience, as we have waited for the planters to dry. We have bloomed our creativity by making posters.

What did you find difficult this week?

Some of us have struggled to keep on task but most of us were able to learn nicely and calmly. Some children struggled with drawing.

We have finished counting up our profits and have been in touch with local care homes to donate the remainder of our product. We went to the hospital to donate our profit. We made our video this week.

What did you learn this week?

We learned where our profits were going - the Children and Young People's Ward said that they would spend the money on new toys for the playroom and essentials such as toiletries for children AND adults staying on the ward.

What did you find difficult this week?

We didn't find anything difficult this week. We enjoyed tying up loose ends of our project and seeing the results of all of our hard work.

For pupils to answer:

In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?

Bright stars has meant a lot to us, from teamwork to budgeting we have really enjoyed this project.

For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?

Children have worked very hard and have taken complete control of all aspects. I caught myself asking one of the boys on the finance team if I was able to spend £4 on some paper bags which made me laugh.
I am so proud of the class, they have shown me a different side of them. They have been kind and considerate and most importantly hard working.
The project has been a great collaborative activity which has been for the most part smooth sailing. For a class that are often arguing and falling out, it has been nice to see them all united with the same goal.
