Week 1

Team name: St Bridget's Bookworms

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we met Lucy who we will be working with again and discussed some ideas that we would like to make for our Bright Stars project. These included making bug hotels, bookmarks, bracelets and bird feeders. Next week we will decide on our product.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt about the job Lucy does at Cavendish Nuclear and all about the Bright Stars project.

What did you find difficult this week?

Coming up with ideas of things to make that will make us the most profit.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we decided on the product we are going to make. To push the love of reading, we are going to make bracelets and bookmarks. We decided on the name 'St Bridget's Bookworms'. We are very excited to make our product. Our next job is to design a logo for our company.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt about the different roles in businesses and that it is important to make sure your profit is bigger on what you spend.

What did you find difficult this week?

Voting on what the final product would be .

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week Lucy arranged for us to have calls via Teams with people from Cavendish Nuclear. We learnt all about their jobs and asked them questions. We also designed the logos for our business and voted on the one that we will use. Congratulations to Beni for designing the winning logo.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt about the different jobs our guests do and what they enjoy and find difficult about their jobs.

What did you find difficult this week?

Choosing the winning logo. They were all fab!

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we had some more Teams calls to learn about the different roles in companies. We created our posters for our selling event.

What did you learn this week?

That people make mistakes but it is OK as they can be fixed.

What did you find difficult this week?

Designing the posters - choosing a date for our selling event.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we looked at budgets which included more Teams calls to talk to people who work in accounts. We also started making our bracelets and decided on a price for our product.

What did you learn this week?

That you have to be resilient when working with small beads!

What did you find difficult this week?

Learning how to tie knots in the bracelets. We persevered though!

Week 6 - Half Term

This week, we made the bookmarks to go with our bracelets. We had some amazing designs and the children worked super hard.

What did you learn this week?

That we need to take our time to achieve the best product.

Deciding what to put on our bookmarks.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, we finished making our bookmarks and bracelets. We had lots of fun!

What did you learn this week?

To be resilient and not give up when things go wrong.

What did you find difficult this week?

attaching the beads to the bracelets and making sure the pen on the bookmarks didn't smudge!

Week 9

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week, Lucy brought us some sweets to say thank you for all our hard work. We also completed a quiz about all the things we have learnt over the past few weeks.

What did you learn this week?

That we have retained lots of information throughout the Bright Stars project.

What did you find difficult this week?

Remembering all the specific jobs that the people we have met do. Also that there are lots of jobs in the working world.

It has been lots of fun to learn about the different jobs people have and we enjoyed designing our bookmarks and bracelets to support the local library.

The children have developed resilience throughout this project as the technicalities proved to be difficult at times! They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different roles in businesses. Bright Stars has supported their teamwork, problem solving, creative and Mathematical skills and we can't wait to take part again next year. A huge thank you to Lucy for working with us, you have been brilliant!
