Week 1
Team name: Plant Pros
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we replanted our seedlings into bigger pots. We had some people separating the seedlings, some replanting and some labelling the pots.
We also discussed the different roles we would need to take for our project to work and what things we could make to contribute to our plant sale/famer's market.
Some children inputted the cost of the seeds and compost into the expenses spreadsheet.
We planted our seeds before the Easter holiday.
What did you learn this week?
We learned how delicate the seedlings were and how easy it was to damage them.
We also learned that businesses work best if everyone has a specific role.
What did you find difficult this week?
Replanting so many seedlings.

Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we have had a visitor from a local business owner (Saz & Sew). She taught us about how she started her business and the ups and downs of being a sole trader.
We met Ellie from NSG too! She was lovely and helped us understand about social enterprises and how we could help our community. She talked to us about how we fit with the UN sustainability goals.
We also kept watering our plants.
What did you learn this week?
That anyone can start their own business, that it is difficult but rewarding being a small business and poverty meant. We all got a hand sewn bookmark and some people had chance to sew one of their own on the sewing machine.
We learned that we should have kept our seedlings in groups.
What did you find difficult this week?
Keeping the plants alive- they keep drooping. It is hard to know how much water to give them.
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week Ellie helped us make a business plan. We talked about what our goals were.
We made information cards about our plants to display at the fair that can help customers know where to put their plants.
What did you learn this week?
We learned that you need to have a business plan and it helps you to stay on track and reach your goal.
We discuss how our market fit the UN sustainability goals.
We also learned about the types of plants we have planted.
What did you find difficult this week?
Understanding business plans.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we had a marketing meeting with Ellie’s colleague. He told us about how to market and what we should include in our posters.
We also had a visit from another entrepreneur- Rachel Galley. She discussed her journey with us and we shared some of our own homemade jewellery with her.
She talked to us about the importance of presentation and customer service.
What did you learn this week?
How QR codes can be used on posters.
That word of mouth was our best marketing tool.
That posters should have little writing on.
That packaging and presentation makes a bit difference.
That customers like to buy from a person. They like to know about you and they will buy if they like you.
What did you find difficult this week?
Tying bows neatly.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week Ellie came to visit us again and she helped to choose our logo that we had been designing.
We also had a visitor from another Entrepreneur- Neil Mason from Brandery.
He talked to us about his journey and how he had helped big companies make logos and slogans.
We made our own posters and a video to go with our QR code.
What did you learn this week?
That you should think about what experience or feeling you most want your customer experience to have about your product or event and give that message in your branding or advertising.
We wanted ours to have a good time.
We also learned how to make posters and use a QR code.
What did you find difficult this week?
Making the poster.

Week 7
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we welcomed in Stacy Hurley who does work for the Charity, Waste into Wellbeing. She talked to us about the charity and how it uses food waste to provide meals for others. People pay what they can and it is run by volunteers.
We also took cuttings of spider plants.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about food waste in the UK and how supermarkets have to pay to throw it out. They give it to Waste into Well-being when it is still fine to eat but at its sell by date. Also, how tiny mistakes on packaging mean it can’t be sold.
We also learned about asexual reproduction in plants.
What did you find difficult this week?
Learning how much food waste there is each week in the UK.

Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we began planning our hall layout for the market.
We gathered toys for a children’s play area.
We made labels for our homemade cakes and biscuits to show allergens (we’re baking at home).
We made posters to show prices of each item.
We started collecting all of our homemade crafts and thought about how to display them.
We planted our spider babies because they had roots from being left in water.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about the importance of careful planning and how the children’s play area needed to be close to where the parents can sit for a drink.
We leaned about how allergens in food need to be shown in bold and ingredient lists displayed next to food and how special deals can help sell more.
What did you find difficult this week?
Having so many different things to do.
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we have been talking about how amazing our Farmers Market was. We had so much fun and were so proud to serve the community. Loads of people showed up and they all said lots of lovely things about our market and produce. We talked about what we should do with the money- we are thinking about a class treat to the Tree Top Nets at Brockhole. The remaining money will go to the RSPCA. We hope to deliver the cheque ourselves.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about the power of community and how much we can achieve when we all come together. We learned how it can be quite scary when dealing with so many people and that you need to prepare to be ready to talk to them.
What did you find difficult this week?
Not having Bright Stars to do. We didn't want it to end.
For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
It has been so much fun. It hasn't felt like being at school- the market was the best bit, we just want to do it again!
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
This project gave an opportunity to bring our Science topic to life. We learned about plants in an engaging way, giving the children real meaning to their learning. It was fantastic to watch them all so engaged as they learned about the world of business-taking ownership for their learning.
