University of Cumbria Communications and Engagement Officer

The University is seeking a talented Communications and Engagement Officer to join its Strategic Communications and External Affairs Service. This full-time, permanent role will be based at either the Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle or the Lancaster campus, with a particular focus on supporting communications activity across the Lancaster and London campuses.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for an experienced communications professional to play a key role in raising the profile of the University locally, regionally and nationally.

The Role

Working collaboratively with professional services teams, academic colleagues, the Students’ Union, and a wide range of partners and stakeholders, the post holder will develop and deliver creative online and offline communications and engagement activities. These will showcase the University’s strengths, impact and benefits to the region across multiple audiences.

The role also involves planning and delivering effective communications and events strategies to strengthen engagement with both internal and external audiences, including key partners and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and delivering creative communications campaigns and engagement activities
  • Producing high-quality content across digital and traditional channels
  • Managing communications projects and campaigns from concept to delivery
  • Planning and delivering events to a high professional standard
  • Strengthening relationships with partners, stakeholders and internal teams
  • Supporting the promotion of University achievements and celebrating success

About You

The University is looking for an outstanding communications professional with a creative flair for PR, communications and promotion. You will bring strong campaign and project management expertise, excellent copywriting skills, and a collaborative, people-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Experience of delivering communications and engagement activity across diverse audiences
  • Strong relationship management and problem-solving skills
  • Event management experience, including budget management
  • A passion for maximising engagement and building advocacy

Further Information

  • Location: Carlisle or Lancaster
  • Salary: £31,236 per annum, with incremental progression to £37,694
  • Post Type: Full Time
  • Contract Type: Permanent
