Week 1
Team name: Langwathby Stars
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we've been thinking of ideas for our business. Some are similar but most are different and next week we will vote to choose our final idea. Some ideas we have thought of include: selling coronation merchandise, a tea and coffee morning, hosting a cinema with snacks and drinks, an art sale, a talent show, a hair styling and nail painting salon, a challenge day, or an escape room. We also looked at different famous logos and companies to give us some ideas for our own.
What did you learn this week?
As well as thinking of ideas and logos, we also met Cristina from the business that we've been paired with (Diff-Ability). Cristina also brought Matthew and Mark from Bake4Eden. They told us about their social enterprises and also about the 5 Ps of business to help us with our own ideas.
What did you find difficult this week?
The most difficult thing this week has been trying to decide on an idea because we have so many good ones. Also, completing this survey!

Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
On Wednesday Cristina visited us again and we decided we were going to combine our ideas into one big event. So we are going to host a talent show for children at school. We will make money by selling tickets to the talent show. We will also make extra money by selling tea, coffee and snacks, arts and crafts, nail salon and competitions like a raffle. We have also thought of our team name which is Langwathby Stars and we've started designing our logo.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about using slogans, logos and names to make a business successful. Cristina and Mr Armstrong showed us different logos from different companies and how they've changed.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was very difficult deciding on a team name and which activites to put on for our event but we all voted in secret to come up with Langwathby Stars as our name and which activites we will choose.
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we were put into different teams. The different teams are the design team, business plan team, customer service team, finance team, marketing team and a managing director but we only have one of those. In our different teams we started to plan the different activities for our talent show.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about how important it is to work as a team to be a successful business. But also about leadership and how it's important to be good at making decisions but also listening to people you work with and not being too bossy.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was difficult deciding on things we'll do for the talent show because people have so many ideas. We've decided to get rid of some things because there was too many.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we finally decided on our logo. We all voted for our favourite then Mr Armstrong took a picture and we used Purple Mash to make our logo by using our favourite picture. The design team and the marketing team have been really busy making posters to get people to come to the auditions and the real thing. The finance team have been trying to work out how much things are going to cost.
What did you learn this week?
We learned how to use computers to make a really good logo. We also learned how to add up money to take it away from our 50 pounds.
What did you find difficult this week?
Sometimes it was difficult using the computers because they kept not working. It was also difficult trying to find out how much things will cost.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We've been really busy this week. Firstly, we held auditions for the talent show on Monday afternoon. Children from different classes came into the hall and we were the judges as well as Mr Armstrong and Mrs Hay. Then we all voted for our favourite acts. In our literacy lessons we also wrote a letter to all the parents letting them know about the talent show and all the things that will be happening on talent show night.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about formal and informal writing to make sure we wrote a formal letter to parents to tell them about the talent show. We also learned how to start and end a letter properly.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was really difficult choosing between all the different acts because they were all so good!

This week we've all been doing lots of different jobs as we get closer to the talent show. The design team have been making lots of signs, posters and tickets for the talent show. The finance team have been making prices for different things we will sell. The business plan team have been sorting out the different acts. The customer service team have been working out who will be in charge of the different things on the talent show night. The marketing team have been writing a social media post.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about how to give change and that you need lots of change before you start selling anything and its called a float. We also learned about how important social media is for promotion.
What did you find difficult this week?
The only thing that was difficult this week was making sure all the jobs got done because we don't have long until the talent show.

Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week was the big week! We had our talent show on Wednesday and we couldn't believe it but we sold about 100 tickets! On the morning of the talent show we made some cookies too. We made 5 each which meant we could take 4 home and use 1 to sell at the talent show. The talent show was great and the whole class came to help out. We sold raffle tickets, second hand toys and games, and drinks and snacks (including our cookies!). There were lots of brilliant acts and there was a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. What did you learn this week?
We learned that even though it was really hard work leading up to the talent show it was worth it in the end when we got to see everything we'd worked for on the night and it was really nice because all the teachers and parents were saying what a good job we'd done. What did you find difficult this week?
We didn't expect to sell so many tickets and Mrs Hay said we couldn't fit that many people in the hall so on the day of the talent show everything had to be taken outside and we did it outside insteadFor pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
It's been really fun because I've never done anything like it before and not only was it really successful but it was for a really good cause.
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
The Bright Stars programme has been an amazing experience for my class, and for the wider school too. It has given the children in the class the opportunity to be part of a real social enterprise and to genuinely make a difference, as opposed to something fictitious or set up. I am also incredibly proud to say that all the work and ideas that went into the project was all of their own doing, I merely helped support them along the way, which has made the whole experience so much more beneficial and fulfilling for them. And seeing their faces during the talent show, watching the thing they had created come to life was fantastic. Thank you so much for organising this incredible programme.
