Week 1

Team name: Mountain Mooses

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Anthony from NIS came to see us and told us all about NIS and what we would be doing with Brightstars

What did you learn this week?

We learnt all about NIS and saw some of the products NIS make including an x ray scanner for lorries

Anthony told us about the different jobs he had before NIS

We learnt about what is a business.

We enjoyed what we learnt

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it hard to understand the picture of a x ray bus for lorries before we were told what it was.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Anthony couldn't come this week but we talked about what we would like our charity to be and what we may sell.

Mr McCully showed us some of the schools from last years Brightstar's on the computer and there different business ideas

What did you learn this week?

Mr McCully asked us what charity we want to work with and we all had some different ideas.

We agreed to help mountain rescue and we will be making lanyards and keyrings to help people when they are out walking.

We learnt what a social enterprise is.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it hard to decide which charity to support so we ended up doing a few votes.

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Anthony came today and we got to tell him about the business we decided on last week.

We started our business plan

What did you learn this week?

After we told Anthony about Mountain Moose he talked to us about our business plan and the 5 Ps

We then completed the business plan on the screen which we will print out and put up in the class room

The business plan we help our business be really good

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to learn all the 5ps.

It was difficult to decide on the business plan.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We learnt about different jobs within a business and were all asked to complete an application for a job we wanted to do.

We had to write why we would be good for the job

What did you learn this week?

We learnt about Campaign Manager, Finance, Creative, Quality, Health and Safety, Administration, Procurement, Sales

What did you find difficult this week?

Finding a job we all liked.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We started looking at lanyards, keyrings and the possibility of doing water bottles.

We found out what our different jobs were.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt that writing to companies is important.

We learnt that you have to look at the price of things when you decide what materials to buy.

What did you find difficult this week?

It was difficult to write to companies.

Week 6

Tell us what you have been doing this week

this week we started making our lanyards and most people were on residential so there was a pupil and a assistant.

we wrote letters and delivered them.

we made posters to go in shops.

What did you learn this week?

that time is very valuable and you have to work consistently when making a product.

What did you find difficult this week?

we found it difficult to correct our mistakes and figure out the best design for our lanyards.

Week 7 - half term

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

this week we looked at writing a letter to mountain rescue ( the charity we chose to support.) last week on sports day we sold our product ( lanyards with safety information on) and some cakes and strawberries and cream. We sold 24 lanyards and between this and selling cakes we took £104 towards mountain moose Because we sold most of our product, we started making more lanyards to be sold in the local pharmacy and COOP. NIS also bought 20 as they have a team who will be doing the 3 peaks climbing challen we counted up our money and paid the school for the use of the laminator and printer.

What did you learn this week?

we learnt that you have to really have to look at the prices of things before you buy them. NIS bought 20= £ 20 y4 bought 20= £20 rest of school 50 =£ 50 pharmacy will hopefully sell 18 = £ 18 coop will hopefully sell 18 =£18

What did you find difficult this week?

deciding whether or not to buy and personalise water bottles. ( we didn't because they are to expensive )
