Week 1

Team name: St Bees Scavengers

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Issy and Lucy from our business partners came and introduced the program. They explained what the terms of the scheme meant and asked us for any ideas we might have for our business.

What did you learn this week?

What an enterprise scheme is.

What did you find difficult this week?

We had too many ideas and we couldn't pick one!

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

Issy and Lucy visited and introduced us to co-workers over TEAMs. They explained what they did in their job and how they got the position. We asked lots of questions! We came up with a name and a business idea. We decided we would make a range of bird feeders and sell them during a coffee morning at school.

What did you learn this week?

How to vote for ideas democratically and go with the majority vote.

What did you find difficult this week?

Keeping our ideas realistic.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We changed our business idea! We realised that the amount of work it would take to make our bird feeders and then the amount we could charge for them would have made no sense as a business. We went back to our first idea: to create a treasure trail around the village which we would sell with a few novelty items as a pack and give all proceeds to Animal Concern Cumbria.
Issy and Lucy visited and they introduced us to some of their co-workers who talked about their jobs and how they got them. (on TEAMS).

What did you learn this week?

How it is OK to change ideas if you realise you've made some wrong decisions.
What qualifications you can do to get a job in a company like Issy and Lucy's.

What did you find difficult this week?

Keeping to a simple business plan and not trying to create too much work when we wouldn't have time to do it.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We had an epidemic of norovirus in school this week. 50% of the class were off as well as our teacher so we didn't get anything done this week. We had to tell Issy and Lucy not to come as school wasn't allowing any visitors in.

Week 6

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we went around St Bees Village and created our treasure trail. We found interesting places or signs and then developed questions and answers. We worked in twos and when we returned to class we made a keynote with our Q & As and airdropped them to our teacher. She then put them into one document that we could then printout.

What did you learn this week?

How to make our product.

What did you find difficult this week?

Thinking of questions/clues that were suitable for a wide range of ages.

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We did an assembly for the school, telling them all about the work of Animal Concern Cumbria and how we were selling our treasure trails to try and raise some money for them. Lucy came in and saw our finished trail - she really liked it! Seb dressed up as a pirate and told everyone about t he trail.

What did you learn this week?

How to create interest in a product that you are trying to sell.

What did you find difficult this week?

We had to plan, rehearse and learn the words for our assembly in an afternoon which was difficult but great fun.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we have constructed, advertised and then sold our Treasure Trails. We made them into a pack with: the trail, pirate tattoos, pirate stickers and some sweets for energy while doing the trail. We advertised on Class Dojo, showing photographs of the dogs and cats the sales would go to help. We made the packs up every day so we didn't waste materials.

What did you learn this week?

How to advertise and sell a product.

What did you find difficult this week?

We were a bit rushed, especially on the last day of sales, trying to keep up with demand.

Week 9

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We gathered in the completed packs and counted up our profits. We held an assembly to announce the trail winners and gave 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how to do a costs and profits sheet and how to evaluate our project.

What did you find difficult this week?

We were sad the project was over.
