Week 1

Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we met our lovely friends from Nuclear Waste services and found out that we'd be working alongside them to create our own social enterprise! Nuclear Waste services came into our school and taught us all about who Nuclear Waste Services are and what they do as a business. They then took us through a PowerPoint presentation about what is a business and the 5P's of a business. We participated in activities around deciding which business where large or small ones and tried to identify the 5P's for the McVities business and a dog walking business.
What did you learn this week?
We learned all about businesses, their impact on the local community and the 5Ps of business! Product, place, promotion, price and people. We learned all about what makes a business successful and the difference between a product and a service.

Week 2 - half term

Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we learned what a social enterprise was - a business that changes the world for the better! Nuclear Waste Services came in and presented us with information on what a social enterprise is and gave examples of types of these in Cumbria. We started to come up with ideas for what our business could be for the bright stars competition, then we completed the 5P's on this.
What did you learn this week?
We learned how social enterprises can make a difference by applying the 5Ps to a local business in our area! We also had a go at making up our own social enterprise and discussing how it could make a positive difference to our community.
What did you find difficult this week?
At times we struggled to work out who our target audience was for our product or service.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We decided that we wanted to write a story focusing on friendship and kindness to help spread a love for reading! We were asked to create a logo for our business idea, andas a class we picked our favourite! Nuclear Waste Services came in to teach us about different job roles. We then had to fill in a sheet and apply for which job role we wanted , putting reasons as to why we should be selected for our role. we all got assigned job roles. We started to mind map our business idea! This got us thinking about steps we need to take to create our product and help make a difference in our community.
What did you learn this week?
We learned what different job roles exist within a business, from finance to marketing to leader! we understood that all these job roles are required for a team project to succeed. We also learned why it is important to have a business plan and what this looks like.
What did you find difficult this week?
We had to vote on our favourite logo and there were so many good ones! But we did decide on the one below!
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we looked at how to manage our money. We learned about what we can use our money for and how to make a profit. We had lots of fun working out the profit for different products!
We also learned about marketing and how to use persuasion to convince people to buy our product.
After we learned all about the different parts of a business, we decided which teams we'd like to split into and started completing our business plan.
What did you learn this week?
We learned that there's lots of different jobs in a business. Our business plan team started to complete our plan and worked out who needed to do what!

We started to write our book this week! Our marketing team have been making posters while the design team have worked on illustrations for our characters. The business plan, customer service and finance team have helped us create our story.

We had lots of ideas for our story and it was hard to pick just one. We voted on our favourite and ended up picking a story about a snowman getting help from friendly Christmassy characters.
