Week 1
Team name: The clean car wash kids.
Tell us what you have been doing this week
The team met with Mrs Dover and started discussing the meaning of social enterprise and business. The children discussed what a business was and we worked through the 5P's lesson, with children working in small groups to complete the 5p's worksheet.
The children understood that a business needed to sell a product or offer a service. The children created a mind map off different services and products and then got thinking about who their target audience would be. The children thought really carefully about what each audience group would be interested in.
What did you learn this week?
The 5P's of business.
What did you find difficult this week?
Understanding that a business provides a product or service that needs to be sold or delivered,
Week 2 - half term
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
The children met with David from Gleeson homes this week. The children were all so excited to meet their partner and find out about his roles and responsibilities. The chidden asked lots of questions about the Gleeson business and we started to share our ideas with David.
We discussed our mind map ideas and decided that offering a service would help the people in our local community. Due to the Autumn months the children had noticed a lot of dirty cars and David said a lot of Gleeson vehicles are very dirty due to being on the worksites. 'LET'S START A CARWASH BUSINESS!'
What did you learn this week?
David helped us to learn that offering a service can make a profit through customers, but also through kind donations or sponsors of other local businesses to support out small business.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was tricky realising that we had to spend some of our own money first, to make money!

Meeting our business partner, David from Gleeson homes!
Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week our advertising team started to create posters and a logo. The teams worked together to design, create and produce their posters to show off exactly what our business is about. We knew we would have no customers if we didn't promote ourselves, so we got to work!
The children each designed a logo, we discussed our logo would need their business name, a picture to show what they will offer and it needed to be eye-catching! The children then voted on which logo would be the winner. It was tricky, but they chose one!
What did you learn this week?
Advertising is important. No one would know who or what we are if we don't promote ourselves.
What did you find difficult this week?
Team work and respecting each other's ideas and creations. Working together then helped us to understand that team work makes the dream work.

SHOPPING TIME!
This week the children created a shopping list of materials that was needed before we opened for business. The children thought hard about which products/materials would give our customers the best outcome. We looked on the internet to check which suppliers were the most suitable and the most budget friendly. After all. we didn't want to use all of our business fund in one go!
What did you learn this week?
The children were able to understand business funding and how important it is to business owners to have some a some business money for supplies and materials.
What did you find difficult this week?
Managing a budget and keeping to the budget is difficult.

We are definitely in the right business!

Must get every nook and cranny!
Week 6
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we had a practice run. We worked with Mr Rowley and all of our brand new supplies to complete our first car wash. We timed ourselves to see how many vehicles we would manage in a set amount of time and this helped us to start thinking of what profit we could make in that time.
The children in year 2 really worked at being leaders for the children in class 3. It was amazing to see so many leaders and teamwork.
That car was finally white again and it only took us 27 minutes. Not bad for a first attempt.
What did you learn this week?
Practice makes perfect!
The children thought they need to be quicker, to get more cars washed! We discussed what we could do to take some time off each car wash and set an opening date.
What did you find difficult this week?
We must go quicker, there are a lot of dirty cars!

WORKING AT THE CAR WASH!
Wow, 6 cars cleaned this week. Our profit tin is starting to fill up and the accountants have been counting up. The children have loved seeing how much of a difference they are making to the people around them. Teachers with clean cars are happy teachers and even the parents were noticing how clean the cars were.
Are we starting to target a bigger audience?
What did you learn this week?
Working hard makes a difference and makes a profit!
What did you find difficult this week?
We needed to start thinking about how we would manage washing all of these cars. We decided we must start to take bookings!

Working at the car wash!

Oh no! Another white car.

On Saturday 9th December we held a mega car wash at our school. We had help from professional rugby players Malik Steele and Laura Nixon who came from Workington Town RLFC. The morning was a huge success and the children made so many cars sparkly and clean. The children are now EXPERTS!
What did you learn this week?
Some times a helping hand is needed.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was difficult pulling together all of the children on a weekend, but team work makes the dream work!

This week the finance team counted all of our sponsorship money. We raised A LOT of money for a local charity supporting men's mental health 'Andy's Man Club'. The children were able to visualise this physical money and it helped them to think of different ways this would support our school and the club.
What did you learn this week?
The finance team helped each other to count our donations and we created groups of different coins and notes to make this easier.
What did you find difficult this week?
WE ARE TIRED! after all that car washing.
