Week 1
Team name: Team Kirkbride
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we met our sponsor, Cristina, who told us all about her business and told us the difference between small, medium and large businesses.
The children learned about the 5 P's of business- Product, Price, Promotion, Place, and People. They created mind maps of their initial ideas, then the whole class voted to choose a name for our Christmas event. Festive Fair was voted the winner!
What did you learn this week?
The children learned about Cristina's business and the 5 P's of business.
What did you find difficult this week?
We had to think carefully about which ideas for products would be easy for us to make in a short time.

Learning about Cristina's business.

Class mind map of ideas.
Week 2 - half term
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Our sponsor Cristina taught us about branding.
The children had a go at designing some logos for our branding; the class voted for their favourite one.
Then we started to create some posters to advertise our event.
What did you learn this week?
The children learned the importance of branding and we discussed what information we would need on our posters to attract people to our event.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was tricky to choose the best logo in our class vote.

Discussing branding and logos with Cristina.

Creating posters.

Products to choose from.
Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we looked back at the 5 P's of business, focusing on the 'product' section. The children thought more carefully about the products in the mind map.
They considered:
-How long the product would take to make.
-How much it would cost to make.
-How much we could sell it for.
-Whether it would be popular with our customers.
We finalised our choices for our Festive Fair.
What did you learn this week?
We learned the importance of choosing products which will be not only popular with the customers, but also not too tricky for us to make.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was tricky for us when we had to decide not to make items we actually really liked!
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Having chosen our selected products last week, the children did the following:
-thought about the resources needed to make the products
-searched online for the best value for money resources
-created an Excel spreadsheet with the item, quantities and prices, ready to go shopping!
What did you learn this week?
We learned how to format an Excel spreadsheet and input data using our Computing skills.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was time consuming to search for the best value resources and input the information on the spreadsheets.

Researching products.

Creating an Excel spreadsheet.

Bracelet making

Making hot chocolate cones.
Week 6
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we started making our crafts. We also had a quick check in on Zoom with Cristina, our business sponsor.
What did you learn this week?
We split into different teams depending on our interests and skills. Some children who are very keen on drawing wanted to help create posters, while others who have experience making bracelets took charge of that.
What did you find difficult this week?
We learned that making bracelets is very tricky so we will need to spend more time on that next week.
Week 7
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We had a Zoom call with Cristina again, she was really impressed with all the crafts we have made. The children explained each craft and showed her an example.
This week we have been really busy creating crafts for our fair next week!
What did you learn this week?
We learned how all of us have to work together- even if people are doing different jobs, it is a team effort! Some people have made bracelets before, so we listened to their tips on how to make a good bracelet.
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of the crafts were more difficult to make than we expected, especially the cork reindeers! We had to come up with another plan for what to do if we can't make the reindeers (different glue).

Using our new elastic for bracelets- the first elastic we tried snapped.

Trying to get the reindeers to stick together- a challenge.

A game at the fair.

Our Festive Fair.
Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This is the week we have been working towards- the week of our Festive Fair!
This week was spent making the final preparations- we completed some crafts (candle jars and cork reindeers). The day before the fair we allocated roles to every child and set up the school hall. On Friday it was time for the fair!
What did you learn this week?
The children learned how to work collaboratively together to make the fair a success. At the fair they gained confidence in talking to strangers, handling money, giving change and helping the younger children who visited their stalls. The children reflected really well on what they had learned.
What did you find difficult this week?
The fair was very busy- we had lots of customers. This meant the children had to calculate change and help their customers at the same time, they had lots to think about!
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have finished our trading now so this week we have been reflecting on how the project went. We have been answering questions about what leadership means to us. Then we considered the highlights of the project and what our challenges were.
What did you learn this week?
We learned that if we work together, we can succeed! It was interesting to hear that lots of children had similar reflections (such as finding some of the crafts challenging or managing the busy crowds at the Fair).
What did you find difficult this week?
Some children were nervous about appearing in the video about our project. We overcame this by having plenty of rehearsal time and letting the children decide which part they wanted to participate in.
For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
Jazmin- It has meant friends and classmates supporting each other. It has meant talking to new people.
Tom- It has meant learning opportunities like making an Excel Spreadsheet.
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
I have been so proud of the confidence the children showed during the project. They were proud of their lovely crafts and really wanted to make the Fair fun for all their customers. They took responsibility for organising the stalls and making the school hall look great. They showed great confidence talking to the customers who came to their stalls.
The biggest impact has been the support they offered each other- they all communicated to help make the crafts (sharing prior knowledge about making bracelets, for example) and on the day of the fair they made sure everyone was happy with their job role, being flexible and swapping roles to achieve this.
