Week 1
Team name: Happy Healthy Habits
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we had a meeting with Cristina. She talked to us about what a business and social enterprise is. We learned a lot of new information.
We have decided what we are going to make and sell. We were also thinking about who our target audience is going to be and how we can get our community involved.
We are called Happy Healthy Habits because we are going to make and bake some healthy smoothies and cakes to sell. We are going to be thinking about our physical health and mental health.
What did you learn this week?
We learned what a social enterprise is and how they can benefit people.
We also learned how to communicate well as a group and listen to each others ideas for our business.
How to vote so that our decisions were agreed by most of our group - especially when we were choosing our team name.
What did you find difficult this week?
We found it hard to think of a team name for our social enterprise. Then when we did have a few options we couldn't all agree on one.

We looked at some catchy names of businesses already. Then we started sharing our own ideas and adding to them until we found our business name.

We created a mind map to share our ideas of what we think a business is.

This is some of our team looking at our £50 note.

This is one of our letters we are sending to the manager of the co- op.
Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Our team were able to have a look at a real £50 note!! No one in our class had seen one of these before.
We have been thinking about how we are going to spend our £50 and if there are any local businesses we can ask to help us.
So this week we have been writing some letters to the managers of the co- op and the bakery just up the road from our school. We are also going to reach out to a local farmer and fare share programmes to see if they can donate anything.
What did you learn this week?
We have learned that money does not stretch very far and that we need to be specific about what we need.
That everyone has good ideas and they deserve to be heard.
What did you find difficult this week?
Deciding what to spend our money on.
Making a list and deciding which resources are the most important.
Thinking about possible recipes and the prices of ingredients - a way to keep the cost down.
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have been focusing on the different job roles and teams within a business. Cristina was telling us about the importance of communication between each team within a company and how they all help each other for the business to be successful.
Cristina helped us decide which role/team we wanted to be apart of within our enterprise. We had a group discussion about our strengths and why we might be best suited for a particular role. One by one we then signed up to that particular team.
Then we reviewed the groups to make sure we have the strongest teams to make our business successful.
What did you learn this week?
That communication is important for businesses to be successful.
The teams all work together to make sure everything flows smoothly.
The finance team are in charge of the money. They monitor how much they make and spend.
Promoters make eye-catching posters to inform people about the events.
What did you find difficult this week?
Making a decision on which group we wanted to be apart of. We had to think carefully and share our strengths with the rest of the group. It was not easy to just pick one area!

These are our three main groups within our business. Everyone signed their name to solidify it like a contact.

Our promotion team have started designing posters to tell everybody about our business.

These were our 5 favourite logo designs. The black one with colourful writing was most popular.

This is us voting for our favourite logo. We used counters and placed them on our favourite one.
Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Our promotion team have been designing a logo for our business so people know who we are.
We spent a lot of time on these and discussed what we needed to include in them. - We decided on our name and a picture.
We also decided that we needed to make it nice and bright so it is eye catching and people notice us.
Our class looked at some familiar logos including McDonalds and other popular logos. We all remembered which business each one belonged to.
With Cristina we also chatted about what we are going to spend our money on and how we can make our business feel personal to each person.
What did you learn this week?
We learned how to vote in a different way. We used counters and one by one placed it on the logo design we liked the most - this was a very fair way of doing it.
That we need to schedule meetings with people to organise things. (It is not just one persons job and other people need to help too)
What did you find difficult this week?
Finding the time to have a meeting with our busy headteacher.
Choosing the best design because everyone had very good ideas.
Thinking about what we should add to our logo without adding too much.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week our Event team met with our Headteacher to inform her about our project and what our plan is. She was very impressed with us and our ideas.
We have now adapted our plan.
We have each designed our own smoothie, complete with ingredients and a fun name!
We are going to hold a taste test with our school chef to decide on our two favourite smoothie flavours.
We have now made a plan to include our whole school. Each class is going to be given a different 'healthy bake' to make for our sale afternoon.
What did you learn this week?
About percentages and estimating how many people we think are going to show up so we have a rough idea of how many cakes and smoothies to make.
How a professional meeting works.
How to sell ourselves and our project to other people.
What did you find difficult this week?
Choosing what we would like to put in our smoothies.
Thinking of how to sell ourselves rather than just telling people what we are doing.

This is our Event team meeting with our headteacher about our plan. They also organised a day and who else in school was going to be involved.

These are just some of our smoothie designs. They are nice and colourful. We tried to create exciting names.

We have sent out pre order forms to our grown ups, so we do not make too many products and things go to waste.
We have ordered recyclable cups to make sure we are staying environmentally freindly.

How to make a pre order form to send to our grown ups.
How to find and use the simplest way to keep track of our pre orders.
What did you find difficult this week?
Knowing how many of each product we should make based off the pre orders.
How many of each ingredient we needed to make sure we ordered the correct amount.

This is a photo of our pre order forms ready to be sent to our grown ups.

This is our tally chart to show how many of each cake and smoothie we need to make.

These are a few of the different designs on our cups.

Week 8

We waited until it was healthy eating week to sell our "healthy bakes" to promote delicious snacks that can be an alternative to unhealthy snacks full of sugar.
We branded our cups with stickers of the our team name.
We worked with the whole of KS1 to make our cakes and smoothies.

That it feels good to provide quality tested goodies to our customers.
That if you work hard it is all worth it and you feel rewarded.
We want to start our own business
What did you find difficult this week?
Choosing the best place for our stalls to go to make sure we are seen and accessible for everyone.
Some customers not showing up to collect their pre orders.
The pressure of serving people quickly.
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have been carefully counting up our money from the bake sale. We have been using our maths skills to work out how much profit we have made, we used our finance sheet to help us with the calculations. We thanked everyone in KS1 for their help baking. We stood up at the front of assembly and told everyone about how well our selling day went and how much money we had made! Celebrating all of our hard work with Cristina. Having conversations about what business ideas we have for the future.
What did you learn this week?
An easy way to count money is by putting it into piles of £5 or £10 for coins and piles of £1 for the smaller coins. This made it easier for us to count it all up in the end Not to be disappointed that we did not make lots of profit because we had a brilliant time selling our products to our adults
What did you find difficult this week?
Keeping track when counting the money - we needed to write it down. Saying goodbye to Cristina because we might not see her again.
For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
It has been the best thing ever! We have loved working as a team to create our own business for Bright Stars.
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
I have really enjoyed working on the Bright stars project with the children. They have taken all of the information on board and made the most of the experience. I have watched the quieter children come out of their shells, get involved in discussions and gain confidence to take on an important role working with a variety of their peers. It made me smile to see them flourish on the day of our bake sale and communicate well with each other to ensure everything was where it needed to be and everyone knew what they were doing. The staff in school complemented our children on all of their hard work and dedication they showed to the business. The children definitely enjoyed the process and I think we definitely have some future entrepreneurs in our school.
