James Harrison was a student curious about the nuclear industry. Like many young people, he wanted real work experience to understand the field better and make meaningful connections.
James took part in the Dream Placement programme and had the exciting choice between two placements. After attending the selection event, he knew Doosan Babcock was the right fit for him.
During his placement week, James connected with people from across the UK and even had the chance to present his group’s ideas about engaging young people directly to the CEO, Andy Colquhoun. It was a unique experience that gave him a real taste of leadership and the workplace.
That placement was a turning point. Through the contacts he made, James was offered a job with Doosan via the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) as an Apprentice Procurement and Supply Officer. Today, he’s also the Chair of the Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC) Shadow Board, helping to shape the future of industry in the region.
James’s story shows how valuable work experience can be when it’s done right. It’s not just about spending time in a workplace, but about building confidence, gaining insight, and opening doors to new opportunities.
