“I did my Dream Placement in 2023 with Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick and BEP (Box Encapsulation Plant). My Dream Placement taught me about the vast number of sectors and careers within them that operate on a nuclear site such as Sellafield. The experience helped me gain confidence and clarity in my career aspirations and taught me how transferable skills can be utilised throughout the industry. It also helped me gain experience in the interview process and enhanced my public speaking skills. As a bonus, I also gained an Industrial Cadets Bronze award alongside my placement, which is recognised throughout the engineering industry.
I am now working for Jacobs, a company heavily involved on the BEP site, where I am doing a Level 4 Cyber Security Apprenticeship. I am happy to say I couldn’t be enjoying it more! They have made me feel part of the team, and my confidence, which was first developed during my Dream Placement, is continually growing. My life has changed much more than I expected after my Dream Placement, and many opportunities that previously weren’t available to me have recently become apparent.
At the Dream Placement 2024 selection event, I played a part in helping host the event and conducting interviews for the company I originally did my own Dream Placement with: BEP. It is strange seeing the event from the ‘other side of the table,’ but it is an experience I greatly enjoyed, and I look forward to helping with future events to further my career.
