“I completed my Dream Placement in February 2022 with Nuclear Waste Services. I feel that Dream Placement gave me focus from the outset and the opportunity to spend time with a company that could actually lead to employment. It guided me into being able to present myself and to become confident speaking up in a group.
The Centre has an amazing way of coaching us and making us appreciate our own abilities, bringing them to the surface during the placement.
The interview process was a real learning curve and that alone helps to introduce you to a professional working environment.
All in all, I was taken completely out of my comfort zone as a new school-leaver and given some skills for life. My biggest takeaway from the Dream Placement is the immeasurable increase in my self-confidence. I would recommend the scheme to anyone. Since Dream Placement, I have continued to support the Centre. I have contributed at multiple events, such as the selection event in December 2022, judging applications for both Dream Placement 2023 and 2024, attending the BECBC awards on behalf of the Centre, and most recently becoming quite invested in the Cumbria Future Leaders steering group. I am now working for Nuclear Waste Services as a Level 6 Nuclear Scientific Apprentice and couldn’t be happier in my current position. My company, like many others involved in Dream Placement, is heavily invested in developing young people.”
