Week 1

Team name: Fantastic Fridays!

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have set up our teams and individual teams completed the following important jobs:
-Our finance team calculated prices based on costs
-Our media team created an email and a facebook post ready to use
-Our design team made lots of pompom 'Values' keyrings &shrunk packets
-Our research team created & used a questionnaire to see what toppings and flavours people prefer for hot chocolate for our 'nurture your taste buds' Friday, linked to our School Values.
-Other teams created posters and price tags
-Members of our team sold hot chocolate and keyrings at breaktime
-We calculated our takings.

What did you learn this week?

-pre-orders for hot drinks would be a good idea
-measuring amounts more precisely would be best
-we need to email further in advance
-we will use 'experienced sellers' to roll out selling next week to make things run more smoothly
-we will have some cups available for children who have forgotten!

What did you find difficult this week?

Our non-food products take time to make, so we didn't have enough keyrings - but this also made them exclusive!
We should be careful calculating prices and ensure we chase 'owed' money after.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

-Loads of exposure for our business by giving out business cards
-This week we focused on Year 4 which was a very busy, popular week
-We started making repairs to any broken keychains... free of charge!
-Made and designed posters for our stall
-We encouraged people to bring in their own cups to use for the hot chocolate, adding to our sustainability drive

What did you learn this week?

-We learnt that we need to be more prepared in the future for how busy and popular our stall will be, potentially splitting year group up and bringing them in waves so we can manage the stall better.
-Some people weren't aware of how much extra toppings etc. were so we need to make a price list.

What did you find difficult this week?

-We didn't have enough change due to a lot of people bringing in notes which we struggled to work with
-We ran out of hot chocolate and milk as we underestimated how popular the stall was going to be

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

-Sold to Year 3 this week
-Took pre orders from teachers
-People were able to add toppings to their hot chocolate
-We were interviewed by Emily and Josh from Atkins and began making a Bright Stars video journey
-We set up our stall in the library which meant we had more space to serve more customers
-Set up our key rings and stall (e.g. cups and keyrings) in a rainbow pattern so it looked more appealing.
-We made a larger profit this week (£79)

What did you learn this week?

-We need to make more key rings on break times due to how popular they were, we had to make them whilst selling to keep up with demand
-We ran out of milk so we need to have extra backup supplies
-We had more space in the library
-Make sure people line up so we know who is next to be served

What did you find difficult this week?

-We made a bit of a mess with the hot chocolate machine
-Next time we need to have a larger table to serve hot drinks on to make sure none of our products get ruined
-At times it got quite loud!

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we were on our school residential, but didn't let that stop us!
We visited York, which is famous for its chocolate!
While we were there we visited the 'Chocolate Story', where we found out the story of chocolate from its origins, all the way through to 'ruby chocolate' today. We considered flavour pairings that are used in truffles and are considering this for our hot chocolates too.
Some drank hot chocolates at the factory and took note of how we were served and any 'extras' that were offered with the hot chocolate. A cafe atmosphere was created that we would like to replicate.

What did you learn this week?

We learned about how marketing turned chocolate selling in the UK from tiny cafes and shops to huge corporations like Rowntrees.
We learned about a marketing genius who sold 'KitKats' after they were first sold under a catchy name, and how they turned 'Smarties' from 'brown discs' to rainbows!

What did you find difficult this week?

We weren't able to sell due to York but we have developed a new confidence in our rainbow designs (Smarties)and catchy 'taglines' like 'Fantastic Fridays' (like kitkat!) and 'nurture your taste buds'.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been thinking carefully about our marketing this week, making a marketing plan to improve our posters based on what we saw on our residential at the Rowntrees museum.

We also created more posters and 'marketing plans' on our Tuesday afterschool session.

We are also selling to Year 3 again this week as our posters stayed up in the hall while we were away, so we are taking advantage of this!

The keyrings were really popular this week and luckily we didn't run out of any of our hot chocolate product this week.

What did you learn this week?

-Some of the keyrings were back to front or made poorly, so we need to make sure we have a check over these before we sell them to make sure we are only selling quality products.

-We need to make sure we are quick with making the hot chocolate as it is very popular and it was hard to keep up!

What did you find difficult this week?

-We found it difficult to separate the children who wanted keyrings to the children who wanted hot chocolate, we need to work on keeping these 2 lines separate.

some

More of our lovely 'nurture' keyrings.

some

Posters with our logo and marketing plans.

some

We discussed what we now know about business.

some

We learned more about how we are a 'social enterprise'.

Week 6

Tell us what you have been doing this week

-This week we created mind maps around 'what is a business?' and 'what is a social enterprise?' and shared our ideas amongst the class.
-We watched a video from a local business about what makes them successful and what running a business means to them.
-We discussed businesses that we enjoy buying from and using
-We did a question and answer session with Emily and Josh about Atkins and what they enjoy about the company.

-We also sold to Year 1 this week on Friday!

What did you learn this week?

-We learnt about local successful businesses in our area
-We learnt more about Atkins through Emily and Josh and what they enjoy about working for them
-We learnt what is a small, medium and large enterprise
-We learnt about the qualities and skills you need to run a success business

What did you find difficult this week?

-Not many of us had heard of a social enterprise before!

Week 7 - half term

some

These will be placed around school.

some

Creating our willow stars as a team.

Bright Stars 2023 - Fantastic Fridays!

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

We have been learning how to create willow stars which we are putting around our school to advertise Bright Stars and the last week of selling! We are selling to reception this week so wanted to have something eye catching and fun for the younger children to associate with Bright Stars. We also got interviewed by Emily and asked questions to create our 'final video'.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how to use nature (willow) and turn it into eye catching, useful items to advertise our stall. We used our presentation and communication skills to create our short film. We learnt how to sell to a range of ages from reception right up to Year 6!

What did you find difficult this week?

Created the willow stars was tricky and fiddly! Selling to younger children was a challenge as they need more support and guidance buying from our stall.
