Week 1
Team name: Beckstone Rainbows
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We had our first meeting as a business. We decided on our business name of Beckstone Rainbows and each person created their own logo. We voted on the logos and chose which elements we wanted to combine before creating our final logo, which featured our name around the outside, as well as rainbows.
What did you learn this week?
We learnt about the five P's of business and considered what they are going to be for our business.
-Product - we are going to sell different sweet cones, bracelets and other seasonal products.
-People - we are going to sell to the pupils, parents and the wider school community.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was difficult when we thought about the prices of our products. We want to make a profit, but also want to make sure that everyone can buy our products too.

Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we met with our Sponsors Amcor. Laura and her team came to speak to us about AMCOR and even shared some of their products with us! We were able to discuss the different roles within the team and consider which roles we would like to have within our business. We also began trading by selling Halloween bracelets and Sweet Cones! We made posters to advertise our products and had a stall at the front of the school at the end of the day to showcase our products and increase interest. We started to make our bracelets after receiving lots of orders from other classes!
What did you learn this week?
We learnt that AMCOR employ around 41,000 people and have sites worldwide. We explored a range of different job roles within the company, including the marketing and customer service roles. We learnt that crisp packets are made from a large roll of film and that production is constantly happening!
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of us found the bracelet making process tricky, so we built on the strengths of each other to make sure we all contributed - some of us prepared the bags ready for bracelets and others designed.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we decided on our individual roles within our business. We appointed a managing director to oversee the company and the events. We also appointed a head of production who will be tasked with creating the prototypes for our Christmas Sweet Cones and Bracelets, as well as our Hot Chocolate Cones. We decided to have a business plan team who worked alongside our finance manager to discuss any purchases we needed to make and any orders which needed put in. Our design and marketing team got to work on a poster to advertise our Christmas Craft Afternoon in December.
What did you learn this week?
We learnt about the importance of taking on roles within a business to ensure that things run smoothly and that any issues can be addressed promptly by a specific team. We also started to consider prototypes for our Christmas products.
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of us found it difficult to decide which team we wanted to be a part of. Thinking about our individual strengths proved to be quite difficult.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have designed posters for the Christmas Cracker Workshop to promote the event. We needed to include the key information, including the date and time and how to register. Our business team have been fulfilling the bracelet, hot chocolate and popcorn cones orders from the previous week.
What did you learn this week?
We learnt how to make sure our product went very far without it ending up on the floor! We did some measuring to make sure the cones were consistent and fair for our customers. We learnt how to add fasteners to our cones to stop the product from falling out.
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of us found it difficult to make sure all the marshmallows went into the cones. We also found it difficult not eating the product ourselves - this was extremely hard!

Making our craft workshop tickets

Week 6
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we made tickets for our upcoming cracker workshop, which is completely sold out! We thought carefully about the information each ticket needed to include and the sizing of the lettering to make each ticket easy to identify. Within the group, we discussed our strengths and took on different roles, such as: Writing the information, drawing images and colouring. We had a very efficient production line going, which was very impressive!
What did you learn this week?
We learnt how to create effective tickets, through discussion we decided on the important information that we needed to include, for example: the name of the person attending, their class (to make them easier to distribute) and the event title.
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of us found it difficult to ensure that the tickets were consistent. Writing the same size and style each time was pretty difficult! We persevered and supported each other to get the job done!
Week 7
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have been catching up on our Christmas product orders!
We had lots of orders for our sweet cones, hot chocolate cones, popcorn cones and Christmas bracelets. We split into teams and calculated how many of each product we needed to make. We then got to work creating the products, ensuring that they were consistent and of good quality!
What did you learn this week?
We learnt how to adapt our manufacturing process. We noticed that some of our sweet cone bags were splitting, so we got together and discussed how we could overcome this. We decided on reducing the amount of product slightly, which stopped the bags from bulging and meant our sweets stayed inside!
What did you find difficult this week?
Fulfilling so many orders in such a short space of time was challenging, as we complete the orders in our afterschool club. We had to prioritise which products we needed to make the most of.

Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We continued to work on fulfilling our product orders. We had a fab time making our hot chocolate cones and delivering our sweet cones, popcorn cones and bracelets to our customers' classes.
What did you learn this week?
We learnt that keeping on top of our orders is important and that communicating effectively with each other is an important aspect of running an effective business.
What did you find difficult this week?
We found it difficult to ensure that all of our orders reached the correct destinations and that the products were adequately labelled to avoid any confusion.
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week, we hosted our cracker workshop, we invited children from Year 2 upwards to come and create their own cracker with us. They chose a template, which they could colour in and make their own. We then provided jokes, hats and chocolate to pop inside it. We then fastened the ends of the cracker to keep the contents inside. Our customers were really happy with their finished products!
What did you learn this week?
We learnt the importance of communication when explaining instructions to our customers. We had to make sure that our instructions were clear, consistent and repeatable. This allowed us to help all of our customers create crackers which were fit for purpose.
What did you find difficult this week?
We found putting together the crackers difficult, we solved this issue by using some tape to help us to keep our creations together securely.
For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
Bright stars has meant creating new products for other people. It has made me feel more confident in speaking. We have enjoyed making the products and some people have improved their photographyskills
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
Bright Stars has supported our pupils in developing their understanding the features of successful business. The children have enjoyed taking on their roles and have worked alongside our project partners Amcor to understand the key skills needed for different roles, before deciding which role they would like to apply for. The confidence the children have gained is amazing, from leading craft workshops to working alongside their peers to ensure product consistency and quality. We had some very strong leaders within our group, who were keen to take charge and ensure everyone was always busy, whether that was fulfilling orders or creating posters to advertise our upcoming events and products.
