Week 1
Team name: The Oughterside Bright Stars
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we were introduced to Sarah Glass who is a member of the Centre for Leadership and Performance. They will be our business partners for the upcoming weeks. We found out about Social Enterprise and started mind mapping ideas. We worked in groups and found out the importance of teamwork and listening to others.
Mrs Kirkbride also did a whole school assembly to introduce us to Enterprise. We found out the difference between services and products.
We came up with ideas for a team name - and we have added this now (we actually came up with a final decision in week 3)!
What did you learn this week?
Understanding the importance of teamwork and listening to everyone's ideas. We also learned about enterprise and services and products.
What did you find difficult this week?
Trying to channel our ideas ... we have so many - we need to narrow them down.
Week 2 - half term
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
On Tuesday the 31st of October we had a meeting with Rachel and Rhianna about our name and our logo for our business (The Oughterside Stars.) We all had homework set for our logo design and we will vote who is the best one. We all want to have a coffee morning for our parents and the other people in village. We have parents coming to make Christmas designs and feel the Christmas feeling. We all worked hard with our teamwork and our leadership.
On the 1st of November we had our first Enterprise club from our headteacher (Mrs Kirkbride.) We've been looking for ideas for our business.
What did you learn this week?
We learned about what a Enterprise is and what difference does it make to a normal business. Rachael and Rhianna set us homework for our logo design and we are having a competition who is the best logo and why do we need a logo.
What did you find difficult this week?
We feel like our time at Enterprise goes far too quickly for how much we want to do in the hour!

Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we started by having a Cookery Day in school. This was led by Amanda Graham from Phunky Foods who supported us to make Christmas treats for our Coffee Morning that was to be held on the next day. The following day, we had our Pensioners Coffee Morning. We had a pleasing turn out. We charged £1.50 for a coffee and a cake and sold some of our Christmas goods too. The whole school came and sang for the people who had attended. It was a lovely morning. Catherine Eve from CforLP came to support us and we were very thankful of her help.
What did you learn this week?
For some of us, singing in front of an audience was a big challenge for us this week. It was nerve-racking! Lucy and Annabelle used their maths and communication skills to successfully sell products and serve items.
From a cookery point of view, we developed new techniques and learned new recipes.
What did you find difficult this week?
We found it hard to organise everything and make sure we were all sorted for the coffee morning because it had been so busy in school with the run up to Christmas - we managed it though!
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we have met as a school to summarise how we have done with our projects and to remind ourselves of all of the curriculum areas that have been encompassed whilst we have taken part in the Bright Stars project. Our main feedback was: - How much we have enjoyed taking part in the project. - How well we have worked together as a team. - That if we were to take part again, we need longer after-school club sessions (probably 2 hours per week), to successfully achieve everything we wanted to, without being rushed. - We are proud of how much we have made considering the size of our school
What did you learn this week?
We have learned about the value of enterprise and how many skills are needed to be successful to run a business effectively.
What did you find difficult this week?
We have found that this week has been very rushed as we have tried to fit enterprise in amongst all of the other Christmas activities going on in school.
For pupils to answer:
In one sentence please tell us what bright stars has meant to you?
For teachers to answer:
Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
Our school is very small (56 pupils) and in some way, we have managed to involve every single child in the project. Through doing this, we have also been able to engage with our community through the Village Christmas Fayre and also when we held the Pensioners Coffee Morning. Our pupils have raised their aspirations and the Bright Stars Projects, (along with the Dream Big Workshop that CforLP have supported us with), has supported this massively. The children have learned about business plans and finances. They have considered charities and doing things for others. They have demonstrated amazing team work and social skills too. I am incredibly proud of them and know that his has given us a great foundation that we can build on in the future.
