Week 1

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we met with our mentors from BAE.
We discussed some ideas for out social enterprise.

What did you learn this week?

We found out about some parts of a submarine.
We learnt what a social enterprise is.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to decide on which ideas to choose because we all had good ides for our business.

Week 2

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we decided on our team name and also designed our team logo.
We all thought carefully about what our team name could be. We had lots of ideas so we needed to vote for our favourite. We chose Victoria Rainbows.
Once we had decided on our team name we learnt about logos. We could name lots of things just from seeing their logo. We all enjoyed designing a logo.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt that a name and logo are important so that people can recognise who is making a selling and product.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to choose a name and logo because there were so many good ideas.
Sometimes it is difficult if your idea is not chosen.

Week 3

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we have compared advertising posters and thought about what makes them successful. Then we all got to design our own poster to advertise our coffee afternoon.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt what a social enterprise is and how they are different from other businesses. We now know that we are a social enterprise because we are helping others through our business.
We learnt what marketing is and how it is important for a business to be successful.

What did you find difficult this week?

It was difficult to make sure that we included all the important information on our posters.

Week 4

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we began making the handmade craft items that we are going to sell at our coffee. We helped make the salt dough using salt, flour and water. We used cookie cutters and put patterns into the dough. We also wrote to Morrisons and Twist Tea to ask for donations towards our coffee afternoon.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how to make the salt dough. We also learnt about what donations are and how they can help people.

What did you find difficult this week?

This week some of us found it difficult to use the salt dough. We found it tricky to roll out and cut into shapes.

Week 5

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we painted the salt dough decorations we made last week and also made our second handmade item. We used lollipop sticks to create a family themed magnet.
We also sent out invitations to our parents and to the groups that use St Matthew’s Community Halls.

What did you learn this week?

This week learnt about how products need to be made carefully so that people will want to buy them. We also learnt about how prices are decided based on how much a product costs to make.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to work out prices that we might charge for our craft items.

Week 7

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we held our coffee afternoon. We really enjoyed seeing so many people from our community. We sold our craft items, held a raffle and sold cakes. It was very busy.

What did you learn this week?

This week we learned about how to set up a coffee afternoon. We set out the stalls and made sure our raffle hampers were ready.

What did you find difficult this week?

This week some of us found it difficult when our craft items has were bought by someone before we go a chance to buy them.

Week 8

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we met with our mentors from BAE for the last session. We discussed what we had enjoyed about doing Bright Stars and our thoughts on the whole experience. WE also looked back at our initial plan. We looked at our costs for running the project and the money that we made by the end. We also worked out how much money we would be donating to St. Matthew's Community Halls and how much we would be using in school.

What did you learn this week?

We learnt how to evaluate our social enterprise and work out the profit we had made.

What did you find difficult this week?

We found it difficult to complete some of the maths involved when working out if our social enterprise was a success.

Week 9

Tell us what you have been doing this week

This week we have written to those who sent us donations to thank them for helping us. We have also made sure that all the raffle prizes were handed out.

What did you learn this week?

This week we learnt that it is important to thank others for helping us.

What did you find difficult this week?

This week a lot of the children have missed working with our BAE mentors and are missing the Bright Stars project sessions in school.
