Tell us what you have been doing this week
Introduction to Bright stars. Discussed money give as start up and potential projects. Encouraged children to tell submariners about our school and what makes us unique. Children decided to incorporate BSL and bees as we live in Barrow. Designed potential logos to be voted on. Submariners showed us crests from their submarine and different things they have on board,
What did you learn this week?
What a social enterprise is, self-esteem and confidence through talking to submariners about our school and our talents and interests. Consider ways to improve the environment and community and discussed pros and cons of each idea. We know that lots of people have different skills.
What did you find difficult this week?
Concept of a social enterprise and collaborating to ensure everyone is heard.
We met the submariners from HMS Dreadnought and some Veterans who worked on submarines a long time ago. We compare their jobs and learnt about submarines.
The submariners helped us to design logos for our business and they shoed us crests from different submarines.
We voted on roles . Some were easy to decide and some people had to convince us.

Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Visitors (navy and veterans) told us more about their about there 'business', focusing on roles and expectations and how life on a submarine has changed. Decided roles for children according to the interests and voted on positions. Lanyards made and job roles agreed.
What did you learn this week?
The importance of speaking and listening to gain information, how businesses are structured but that each person has a role to play. The importance of responsibility whilst still being respectful.
What did you find difficult this week?
Ensuring children were clear on their roles and what this meant their responsibilities would be.
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Board meeting to discuss progress so far. This was important as new members of the business link joined us. Examples of cards and budget discussed. Mrs Muldoon was told that she could not buy a new dress with the profits and complaints from the cleaner were dealt with. The board decided that the cleaner would have to still clean as some mess was to be expected making recycled cards. The children also taught BSL to our business link as it is important that they can also be involved in the coffee morning.
What did you learn this week?
Lots, reconsidered business roles, how complaints can occur along with achievements. The importance of working together and how different people have different skills that can be shared to create life long learning.
What did you find difficult this week?
Some of the business links found the BSL quote difficult to master, however they remained ENTHUSIASIC.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
5 ps of business. We looked at our business compared to the Royal Navy. We told Tom he could have more money and we found out more about submarines. Did you know submariners are really pirates and they hope that their engine doesn't stop in the sea. We also know Friday is the best day for food on a submarine because it is chocolate pudding day.
What did you learn this week?
We know that the 5 Ps are people, purpose, place, promotion and price. We compared our 5 Ps with the navy. Tom told us that the navy have an infinite budget. We told him be have £50. We have written letters to ask for donations and made invitations to our coffee morning.
What did you find difficult this week?
Understanding the words for the 5ps. Our teachers gave us lots of examples.
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We started to make our cards. We have written letters asking for donations of paper to recycle into cards. We collected seeds from follows that Miss Hagen had dried. We shook poppies and also had aquilegia and other seeds. We tore and mushed up paper to put in frames, then we squeezed the water out , added seeds and ;left it to dry. It was quite messy but a lots of fun.
What did you learn this week?
We had to work together and talk to each other to make the paper. Everyone joined in so it was fun but people made sure we were all doing things properly. Only Mrs Fetwell (the cleaner) didn't like the mess! People were kind and donated paper, envelopes and seeds to us. This meant we spent less.
What did you find difficult this week?
It was a fun week and we weren't allowed to sack Mrs Fretwell. We even told Mrs Muldoon she could borrow any of the money for new dresses or shoes!
We mushed up the paper and put it on frames. Then we squeezed the water out.
We added the flower seeds to make plantable cards.
We d sent invitations and people started to reply.
We sent out lots of invitations before the half term.
Week 6 - Half Term
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Although it was half term, Miss Hagen had replies about our coffee morning and we were told we could use the British Legion room for free.
What did you learn this week?
Businesses never stop. People work at different times (the submariners were still working while we were off) and most businesses don't have everyone on holiday at the same time.
What did you find difficult this week?
We were worried that all our cards might not get finished.
Week 7
Tell us what you have been doing this week
It was a very, very busy week decorating our cards. We were very happy that everyone helped. We also met Sharon who runs an Art social enterprise and we found lots of things in her business were similar to ours.
What did you learn this week?
Its important to keep everyone happy because then more gets done. It's good to work together. Kindness and smiles can be more important than money.
What did you find difficult this week?
Our hands hurt drawing and colouring more than 300 cards.
We all worked together, including the submariners and veterans, to make our cards.
We stamped them so people where they were made and put the cards in envelopes.
We made and displayed over 300plantable cards, along with work we had created through out the project. We sold all of our cards.
We auctioned a christmas card so we could perform Holy night

Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week has been amazing and very busy. First we had to practice our signing. Then we set up the British Legion. Mrs Stewart and Mrs Hosker donated cakes for us. We really wanted to make people happy and smile, we didn't want they to feel lonely...and we hoped that the might buy a card. The coffee morning was free to attend and people were excited. It was amazing and we were amazing. So were the submariners and veterans. Our coffee morning was a success. We made people smile, laugh and cry..but they were happy tears.
And we did a second performance in the afternoon. at ArtWorks.
What did you learn this week?
Making people happy is great. Smiling in contagious and lots of people were very happy to see us. The submariners have learned sign language from us and they were really good too. We don't want Bright Stars to stop. It has been amazing. We also have some of Mrst Stewart and Mrs Hosker's cakes .
What did you find difficult this week?
We fre sad Bright Stars is ending. Everything else was brilliant because we all worked together.
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We have been evaluating the Bright stars project. We have thought about all the things that we have learnt about, all of the new people we have worked with the different roles in businesses. We know it is important to work together and be kind. We also found out that we have raised £360 that we are going to use to hold more coffee mornings and buy things we need to do that. We have also been reading cards that people have sent to us to say thank you. We are pleased that we have made so many people happy.
What did you learn this week?
Ava-Grace enjoyed all of the art activities. Amelia enjoyed working with lots of people and being a bit bossy. Braiden liked visiting people and performing outside of school. Mason enjoyed teaching sign language. Natalie liked finding out about the navy. We all loved the project for lots of reasons.
What did you find difficult this week?
It is sad the the official project have finished but we want to tell everyone what we have been doing, so are going to do a coffee morning for our parents and talk about Bright Stars at our carnival.

Bright stars has made us feel special because we have worked with lots of different people, learned new skills and made people smile.

Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
Bright stars has encompassed everything that I love about teaching. Children have had control over a project, developed their interaction with a a wide range of people and spread happiness. Each individual has had the opportunity to show and develop their skills. Children have gained confidence with 2 children demonstrating sign language and teaching the submariners which would not have been possible with out this project. We have explored business, inclusion and kindness with our new friends form HMS Dreadnought. Most importantly we have had engaged and happy children.
