Fully Funded First Line Manager Programme in Westmorland and Furness

We are excited to announce a fully funded First Line Manager Programme thanks to funding from Westmorland and Furness Council’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The First Line Manager (FLM) programme aims to equip new managers in Westmorland and Furness with the toolkit, training and support they need to improve motivation, engagement, employee retention and productivity.

The programme includes:

• Four Half-Day Workshops: Spread over eight weeks, allowing time between workshops for participants to start applying what they’ve learned
• Coaching Sessions: Pre, mid, and post-programme coaching to support that application
• Peer Learning Opportunities: The opportunity to work and learn alongside peers from a range of people and businesses in Westmorland and Furness
• FLM Community Access: Regular access to our FLM community to explore challenges and share best practice

Catherine Eve, Executive Director at CforLP explains:

“Many employees are promoted to management roles due to their expertise in their subject matter rather than their ability to manage people. This can result in challenges in employee retention, productivity and motivation. The First Line Manager Programme is specifically designed to address this gap by providing a short and effective programme, a toolkit, training and support for those new to managing people.”

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

• Build positive relationships with their team members and have meaningful conversations with them
• Have increased confidence with tricky conversations like giving feedback and performance improvement
• Address minor performance issues before they escalate to the HR team
• Increase engagement and motivation within their teams, with the long-term effect of reducing employee turnover and improving productivity
