Tell us what you have been doing this week
We met Clare from Penrith Building Society, who is helping us with our social enterprise. We learnt about the 5 Ps of business and started to think of ideas for own own 5 Ps.
We have chosen to design and sell our own wrapping paper and tags and started to create our designs.

Week 2
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We made our wrapping designs on Purple Mash and voted for our favourite ones. We have chosen to raise money for Down Right Worthy which is a local downs syndrome charity. We worked together to create our business name - Clifton's Colourful Crafters. We sent 3 of our designs to a printing company to turn them into wrapping paper.
What did you learn this week?
We learnt what a social enterprise is.

Choosing the best designs was really tricky!
Week 3
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We came up with ideas for our business logo and we each made a design. We then voted for our favourite one.
What did you learn this week?
About the EU sustainability goals and which ones we are working towards.
What did you find difficult this week?
The business logos were all really good and it was hard to decide which one we liked the best.
There was a lot of EU sustainability goals!
Some of us made designs using the ipads.

Week 4
Tell us what you have been doing this week
This week we learnt what advertising is and we talked about how we wanted to advertise our wrapping paper. We made our own adverts and posters using the ipads. We are going to put our adverts in the windows at school and on the school facebook page.
The wrapping paper arrived from the printers which was super exciting!
What did you learn this week?
We learnt how to make posters on the computers and follow step by step instructions carefully.
What did you find difficult this week?
Making the posters! we had to learn lots of litle things!
Week 5
Tell us what you have been doing this week
We helped roll up the wrapping paper and we hole punched the tags and threaded string through the holes, which was fun!
We made a large advert to go outside of school and put up our posters.
We made our own shop outside school and started making lots of money! We have also asked local businesses to support us and they are selling some of our paper too! (Penrith Building Society and The George and Dragon pub - we gave them some of our posters to put up too).
What did you learn this week?
We learnt that sometimes it is better to go slowly and carefully to do a good job. We learnt that to sell to customers you need to speak nicely and running a shop is a big responsibility. we also learnt how to calculate change.
What did you find difficult this week?
Giving people the correct change, especially when it was busy and it was fiddly to do. It was hard to remember the amounts of money.

This week we have been rolling up more wrapping paper and making lots and lots of gift tags!
Our after school shop has been very busy and we have been taking turns at who gets to be the shopkeepers. It is really fun. We were very excited to count our money, we have over 100 pounds already!!!!
What did you learn this week?
How to speak to customers. Even if your're really excited, customers don't like it when you shout too loud!!!
What did you find difficult this week?
Rolling up the wrapping is really tricky because we don't want to crease it. Putting the string on the tags is hard because you need to tie knots.Being patient when there are no customers at our shop!

Week 8
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Selling lots of wrapping paper and tags!! we put some more adverts on social media, we reminded people it was nearly Father's Day, so our shop was very busy. Lots of customers wanted the car paper. Our friends at Penrith Building Society had sold so much last week, we had to give them some more!
What did you learn this week?
We counted with real money which lots of us had not done before. It helps to put it into to piles that you can count easily. The money looked a bit different to the fake money we have in school. We like the real money better!!
What did you find difficult this week?
We are sad because it is our last week and our shop closes on Friday.
Week 9
Tell us what you have been doing this week
Even though Brightstars has finished, we are still continuing to sell our wrapping paper and donating any further profits to Down Right Worthy. We have been working in groups to come up with ideas for our video and we have filmed our video. We have made thank you cards for our business partners. We have found a new business partner, House of Hair, who has very kindly offered to sell our remaining wrapping paper in their shop.
What did you learn this week?
We have been learning how to give people change from their money. we learnt its best not to have too many people working on the shop at once! We learnt it was good to have some examples of our wrapping paper out on display so customers could see what they could buy.
What did you find difficult this week?
We began to run out of customers to buy our wrapping paper at school. It was very tricky to count the money and work out how much profit we had made.

Can you tell us the impact this programme has had on your school?
The children have learnt a lot from this project, but for us, the most crucial lessons have been teamwork, listening to others, and considering the needs and desires of others. Naturally, we always teach these skills in school, but we've discovered that they've been extremely effective when they're needed in the "real life" situation of starting their own company. In order to attract customers when we were ready to sell, the entire school community participated by voting for their favourite wrapping paper designs on our social media posts. Children in the school have been inspired to start their own businesses - from nursery and reception, role playing shops in the playground up to some of the older children setting up their own 'shops' at home. The entrepreneurial spirit has been contagious! The children are all very proud of the money they have raised, 'it is the most money we have ever seen!'. The 50% of the profits that will go school, the children have kindly decided that it will be used to buy new playtime equipment, so that all the other children in school can benefit from what they have raised. The most nerve-wracking part for the children was staring in the video (we had to email it, sorry), they all wanted to share their own thoughts and feelings, the words they say are their own, as we thought that was very important. Fox class have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Brightstars project, thank you for the opportunity.

They have all worked incredibly hard and we feel for such a small school and community they have raised a huge amount. The children decided to donate 50% of their profits to Down Right Worthy, who help support local families who have a child with down syndrome, a cause close to all our hearts.
